App Review McAfee: how bad is the worst antivirus?

It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.

At one time I was a Mod there (B), and will never use it again.
Wow, that's sad to hear. You were a Mod, and even so you had to listen to a lot of things and couldn't do anything about it, your hands were tied. 😞
Seen too much and heard to many excuses on that forum of issues unresolved, request denied, and making users the Beta testers
If the co-founder of B is Romanian, why on earth didn't he or they see that their product wasn't pleasing users? BTW, I have nothing against Romania. Without straying from the topic. Do you remember, or is it from your time, when they made a website with a petition to bring back the widget that B had removed, and nobody liked it? They brought back the widget because of so many complaints. I don't remember which version of B it was, but I remember that. :)

I believe at one time the Premium version also used the BD scanning engine and was pretty good in that regard. I think I used it for about a year or two.
It was GData that used Bitdefender and Avast many years ago as engine A and engine B. I am not familiar with Avira and Bitdefender having had any dealings. Oh and 360 as well, used both, Avira and BD.

As I remember the mods on Webroot if you spoke or hinted against its effectiveness flames would come from your keyboard & you would be killed instantly without any warning, this was a while ago though?
They banned me cuz I made a comment that they need to update their UI (which looks like TuneUp Utilities 2008). I’m sorry but…. Who does that nowadays.

Yep, it looks like your right. I just remember... I think, now I'm starting to doubt myself 😅 was that the Premium version was better because it used two scanning engines compared to the free version, along with some of its bells and whistles?

The premium version also had access to the cloud… I don’t remember any other differences.

I could never deal with having an umbrella in my taskbar as Avira did?
The problem was that the Avira umbrella was always closed, and then splim, and then splim again, and a pop-up would appear. Jesus Christ, how annoying it was! Sometimes that sound would scare us. Look, Mcafee, let's not stray too far from the topic, or John will literally turn over in his grave, with all due respect to him. :)

Not far from topic; those comments are evidence that McAfee is not the worst AV, and there are much worse AVs, in present, and in past.

They banned you just because of that? They don't know how to take a joke, do they? Good grief, a company that takes offense at a joke in poor taste and immediately bans a moderator is not a company that deserves to have a product on the market.

There was and there will always be way worse than McAfee. Whilst McAfee was no “rainy daisy”, their UI was always OK, their protection was ok… their installation/uninstallation was 10 minutes. 😭🤣

It was merely a few product suggestions, the post disappeared overnight and when trying to access, it was saying account disabled.

Now, let's see if I get banned 😂
I checked out F's forum. So you're suggesting they improve the GUI? If I understand correctly, I no longer have any doubts considering @Trident's experience with Webroot. You could be deliberately banned from there at any time.

They are very tolerant over there almost to a fault, you almost have to asked to be banned. I think I've had about 10-15 posts mark "accepted answer" by the forum admin, so I don't see that as happening. They need all the help they can get there, and they appreciate it.

I understand, but he couldn't have done that. It damages their reputation. Today, the web has many influential people. You are one of them, so to speak. If you are famous, you become even more influential. If someone asked you for advice on which product to use, which one would you recommend? Surely you wouldn't recommend any, unless they paid you a fee.

Oh, good, I'm glad they're more passive. That's good to hear. I thought it would be like other products, such as W.

@Sorrento He's already gone, and he's already said good night, now it's my turn, but I'm just going to rest. Good night, good morning, or good afternoon to @Trident, @Jonny Quest, @Parkinsond, and all the other colleagues who are here. No, forget about McAfee, even if it's a little off topic, just type McAfee between the words and everything will be fine. I think you guys get it? ;)

Norton many years (25 maybe less) ago totally lost their way totally with updates to the updater that was broken beyond repair & it became such a mess I vowed never to use it again, then a few years ago they redeemed themselves & it was decent, now I fear they lost any allegiance from me again?

One or two have mentioned Mcafee having prompts to upgrade after its been on a while, has anyone had this & is it very intrusive?? As for me so far its OK ??
for mcafee essential was intrusively annoying the first 24 hours afte install, but then it became quiet and I had ignored / skipped its various offers and suggestions.

The prompt is for Trend Micro. Trend Micro is the one asking for a restart to install update. The updates are usually every 2-3 months.
my Trendmicro has been pleasantly quiet. If I download a file, I get a small flag in the lower right corner of desktop that the file scanned and clean. that is all, so far.

I remember using F-Prot too, you're also one of the old-timers at @Sorrento. Exactly, it disappeared from the map, but I don't remember how effective it was at the time. If I go through my stuff, I might still have it on CD.
I recall having F-Prot DOS running on its own DOS pc and putting newly obtained file on floppy and scanning it in DOS before running it on your windows.
EDIT ...& then the files just got too big for even the biggest floppy.

Just a tip before I go, many of you probably already know this, but I thought I'd leave this tip from McAfee anyway. Remember, when you visit a malicious website, phishing site, etc., and McAfee WebAdvisor blocks it, just close the browser tab. If you click to visit the site anyway, McAfee WebAdvisor will automatically add the domain to the whitelist for that site, and it will no longer block that domain. Here is an example of phishing in the screenshot below. (y) Best regards to all! Stay safe.;)
