Unfortunately, we’re not able to get the feature to work when we enabled related flags, but it is available to some, as Lumia confirmed. Microsoft also said the feature is always available in Canary for some time behind a flag.

Greetings, Insiders! In today’s update, we are moving a couple of items around, so let’s jump into it!

First up, y’all may have already noticed that we implemented tab preview in Canary, and we’re updating the status of Bring the tab preview feature from the current version of Microsoft Edge to Planned! Once we know more on when we expect this to roll out further, we’ll update the status for the month we expect to see it out. Also moving to Planned is Some web page fonts are blurry. We’re still working on different aspects of this, and will provide a better timeline on when we expect this to be addressed at a later time.

Additionally, we are considering Bring the Ask Cortana feature from the current version of Microsoft Edge as addressed via an alternative: search in sidebar. Maryam posted a detailed thread on how this feature works a few months ago when we introduced it. Please head over to that thread to see what we implemented and drop some feedback for the team! (In addition to this update, we've added Alternative Addressed to the Status definitions below the list of feedback items.)

We are constantly looking to adjust our decisions based on feedback. On this forum, some users have asked that we track vertical tabs coming. While we are still having discussions on the team about this, we wanted to bring to light that some users started to notice vertical tabs appearing. Once we decide on vertical tabs showing up on this list, we’ll for sure provide an update here.

Lastly, don’t agree with a decision we made? That’s okay, we want to know more about why! Submit feedback directly through the browser to let us know your thoughts. Added features:

• Added support to Kiosk mode for an automatic browser restart when it’s idle.
• Enabled support for the Storage Access API. Note that this was previously under a controlled rollout.
• Enabled a feature from Chromium that forces websites to specify the SameSite=None attribute in order to use third-party cookies. By default, cookies without this attribute will be treated as if they’re SameSite=Lax. See SameSite Cookie Changes in February 2020: What You Need to Know for more details.

Hello, Insiders! We have a couple of updates this week, including marking one as Addressed! Let’s take a look at what we’re changing this week on this list.

First up, we’re really excited to share that Enable navigation of PDF files via table of contents is being updated to appear in Canary by September, so we’re marking that as Planned for September. Keep an eye out for this to appear, and be sure to let us know how you feel about the navigation! Additionally, we expect to have our changes for Voice search on google.com doesn’t work available in September. If you use voice to search on your browser, look for these changes soon.

This week, we’re marking Provide different options for sorting favorites as Addressed. Back at the end of April, we posted that we implemented the ability to sort your favorites alphabetically. We now believe that this has answered most user requests around sorting favorites. The team is consistently looking at feedback around favorites, though! If there’s a sorting option that you would like to see, please do drop us some feedback through the browser itself (or the mobile app if you’re using that).

Microsoft has started testing two new features designed to help save you money when making purchases on retail stores.

Both of these features, a price comparison tool, and a coupon autofill, are currently a work in progress with only basic functionality enabled but does provide insight into Microsoft's plans for making the Edge browser stand out from the rest.

BleepingComputer has discovered a new feature added to the Microsoft Edge Dev and Canary builds that will perform price comparisons of retail product pages added to a Collection.

This feature is internally named 'MsCollectionsPriceComparison' and is a work in progress as all the features are not currently working yet.

When adding product pages from specific retail sites, a 'Compare prices to other retailers' link will appear under the product price, as shown below.

When clicking on the compare price link, Microsoft Edge will connect to https://www.bing.com/api/shopping/pricecompare/search and attempt to find other matching products and display their prices.

In our tests, this feature is not working yet and only works on certain retailers, including Amazon, BestBuy, Newegg, Walmart, and Target.

As usual, Microsoft has released its weekly build of the Chromium-based Edge browser to Insiders running Dev builds. This week's build is 86.0.608.2, up from last week's 86.0.601.1, and just like that release, it's fairly minor in terms of new features. The first couple of releases built on Chromium 86 actually added a lot, but things seem to have slowed down now.

Possibly the biggest news today is improved support for dark mode in the default form controls, such as dropdown menus or calendars, in webpages that use them. Of course, if pages use custom form controls, they won't be affected by the change. Here's the full list of additions:

• Added support for Dark Theme in default webpage form controls like dropdowns, calendars, etc.
• Added a management policy for Kiosk Delete Downloads On Exit. Note that this policy only applies to when the browser is in Kiosk Mode, and administrative templates will be updated later.
• Enabled support for the Chromium management policy for a User Data Snapshot Retention Limit.

Like every other release, this week's build also has a handful of fixes, with separate lists for reliability and behavior improvements. The reliability improvements mostly involve fixing crashes, as you can see below:

• Fixed a crash when closing a window.
• Fixed a crash on browser shutdown.
• Fixed a crash when opening DirectInvoke programs.
• Fixed a crash when switching browser profiles.
• Fixed a crash when using Guided Switch to switch browser profiles.
• Fixed an issue where opening a PWA or installed website sometimes crashes the browser.
• Fixed a crash when closing the browser on versions of Windows older than Windows 10.
• Fixed an issue where some websites don’t load properly when Quiet Notifications are enabled. Note that this change restores regular notifications for affected sites.
• Fixed an issue where videos sometimes stop playing right after they start.
• Fixed an issue where creating a new Collection sometimes fails.

As for the behavior, fixes mostly have to do with the browser not doing what it's meant to do. Here's the full list of fixes:

• Fixed an issue where profile dialogs like for Guided Switch or Sign In sometimes don’t appear.
• Changed favorites links on the Favorites management page to open in a new tab instead of the current one.
• Fixed an issue on Windows Insider builds where Edge tabs don’t appear in the alt+tab list even when the Windows setting is enabled.
• Fixed an issue where suggestions that appear for URLs to visit when the typed URL doesn’t exist weren’t working.
• Fixed an issue where some parts of the Website Information popup are missing.
• Fixed an issue where the fullscreen Shy UI sometimes doesn’t respond to input.
• Fixed an issue where the Shy UI window control buttons (minimize, close, etc.) don’t respond to touchscreen presses or show hover state when the mouse hovers over them.
• Fixed an issue where going through the Collections First Run Experience creates an extra Collection.
• Fixed an issue where saving PDFs that are embedded in webpages sometimes results in the file being saved as an HTML file instead of a PDF.
• Fixed an issue where MsEdgeDriver fails to launch Edge when running inside a Windows docker container.

Despite all the fixes, though, there's still a long list of known issues. One of the new issues is that some websites, such as Discord, might not load at all. Most others have been carried from previous releases:

• Certain websites like Discord currently aren’t loading. We’re working to get the fix integrated into our Canary branch.
• Mac users running the OS 11 preview (Big Sur) may have issues with all versions of Edge either crashing or not launching to begin with. We’ve identified the issue and are working to get it resolved before Big Sur is officially released.
• Users with certain hardware are seeing changes in scrolling behavior that are unintended. For example, pages scroll much faster than they used to. We’re currently investigating.
• Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on Youtube. As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed. See My Images for FormerMember - Microsoft Tech Community... for more details.
• Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
• Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load. This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
• Some users are seeing favorites get duplicated after we made some previous fixes in that area. The most common way this is triggered is by installing the Stable channel of Edge and then signing into it with an account that has already signed into Edge before. Fixing this should be easier now that the deduplicator tool is available. However, we’ve also seen duplication happen when running the deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so while we wait for some of the fixes we’ve made to come to Stable, make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
• After an initial fix for it recently, some users are still experiencing Edge windows becoming all black. Opening the Browser Task Manager (keyboard shortcut is shift + esc) and killing the GPU process usually fixes it. Note that this only appears to affect users with certain hardware and is most easily triggered by resizing an Edge window. For users with discrete GPUs, updating graphics drivers may help.
• Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other. Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices. This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.
• There are some issues where users with multiple audio output devices sometimes don’t get any sound from Edge. In one case, Edge becomes muted in the Windows Volume Mixer and unmuting it fixes it. In another, restarting the browser fixes it.

A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft acknowledged that some users were seeing vertical tabs start to be implemented, even though the company wasn't ready to begin tracking it as a feature request. With this week's release, the feature has now been added to the feature tracker, but it's simply showing up as "Planned" without a release timeframe.

Greetings, Insiders! We have been working hard to bring changes and improvements to the browser. If you haven’t in a while, check out Josh’s update post for more details on what we’ve worked on lately.

There are some things that we consider quality areas in this summary: items that we will continuously work on improving as the browser evolves. One of these items is scrolling in PDFs, and this week we’ve implemented a change that will help with this. Available in our Dev and Canary channels, we introduced our first step to improve the scrolling and responsiveness of PDFs. You can try this out by enabling the feature flag at edge://flags/#edge-smooth-scrolling-enabled-pdf (copy and paste that into your browser’s address bar). If you have any thoughts about this new feature and any changes you notice in your PDF scrolling, please let us know by submitting feedback directly through the browser via the … menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
