Dev channel update to 95.0.1000.0 is live

Greetings, Insiders! Dev channel update to version 95.0.1000.0 is going out today! 1000 builds have now gone through Dev and Canary, and Josh goes over the IE mode site list syncing and more in this week's build.
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 95.0.1000.0 to the Dev channel. If you’re a Beta or Stable user, we also released version 94 and 93 last week to those channels respectively, so make sure you’ve got the latest builds! In community news this week:

Since there have only been a couple of builds since last week, there’s not much to talk about that’s new in the product this week, but here’s everything we’ve got:
  • Added the ability to sync custom IE mode site lists between devices.
  • Re-enabled the improved browser profile sign-in dialog.
  • Fixed a crash on launch on Linux.
  • Fixed a crash when clicking the … menu in a PWA or website installed as an app.
  • Fixed a crash when watching videos.
  • Fixed a crash when using Smart Copy.
  • Fixed an issue where the browser crashes when switching to a different profile, including Guest or Kids mode.
  • Fixed an error when exporting a Collection to Word.
  • Fixed an issue on mobile where Collections sometimes don’t sync.

Dev channel update to 95.0.1011.1 is live
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 95.0.1011.1 to the Dev channel, and we’ve got a lot to talk about! Last week we had a bunch of resources for extension developers, but for extension users, this week we’ve got some trending extensions you may want to check out: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/articles/trending-extensions-on-microsoft-edge-add-ons/m-p/27.... Also, for anybody who’s ever hit F12 and been confounded by the complexity of what pops up, we’ve got an overview of some of the recent work we’ve done to help you make the Dev tools your own: Make Microsoft Edge DevTools your own. As for everything else that’s worth talking about this week:

Added features:
  • Added the ability to hide the Extensions button by right-clicking it on the address bar or in the … menu.
  • Added a setting on Mac to hide the Picture in Picture overlay controls.
  • Completed feature rollouts:
    • Enabled by default improvements to Windows Task Manager when running on Windows 11.
    • Enabled by default the ability to autofill custom data.
  • Mobile:
    • Added support for natural voices to Read Aloud on Android.
    • Enabled the Surf game on Android.
  • Management policies (note that updates to administrative templates or documentation may not have occurred yet):
    • Added policies to set an Internet Explorer Integration Window Open Width Adjustment and Internet Explorer Integration Window Open Height Adjustment, which add extra pixels to the size of popup windows opened from IE mode tabs.
    • Added a policy to control if Visual Search is Enabled, which controls reverse image search.
    • Added a policy to control Shadow Stack Crash Rollback Behavior, which controls if the hardware-enforced stack protection security feature in certain devices should be enabled following a crash that’s triggered by it.
    • Enabled support for the policy from Chromium to control if Browser Legacy Extension Points Blocking is Enabled, which controls if legacy extensions are allowed to load code into the browser’s main process for compatibility with other applications.
  • Developer:
    • Added support for the No Frame Merging in IE mode tabs.
    • Added support for the navigator.share API in PWAs on Mac OS.

Dev channel update to 95.0.1020.0
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 95.0.1020.0 to the Dev channel, and since this is the fourth build from version 95, that means we’re done with 95! Yes indeed, this is what will be moving to Beta, give or take a few small patches.

We also announced last week that your Microsoft account can now be completely passwordless, thanks in part to Edge and Authenticator working together to manage your passwords. Read more here: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2021/09/15/microsoft-announces-passwordless-future-avail....

And if you’re a big PDF user, we’re happy to announce that we’ve implemented view restoring for PDFs: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/articles/pick-up-where-you-left-off-on-microsoft-edge-pdf-rea....

As for everything else that’s new in the browser this week:

Added features:
  • Features enabled by default:
    • Windows 11-style visual updates (note that these are still in development).
    • The ability to annotate PDFs with freeform text. See Add Text to your PDF documents for more details.
    • The ability for PDFs to restore what page they were on when they are re-opened.
    • The ability to annotate web captures with ink.
  • Management policies (note that updates to documentation and administrative templates may not have occurred yet):
    • Added a policy to control if Intranet File Links are Enabled, which controls if file: URLs located on intranet pages will open File Explorer.
    • Enabled support for the policy from Chromium to control if Cross Origin Web Assembly Module Sharing is Enabled.
    • Enabled support for the policy from Chromium to control if the Display Capture Permissions Policy is Enabled.
  • Improved support for opening local files in the browser on iOS.
Since Beta is soon moving to version 95, that also means 94 is moving soon to Stable, so be on the lookout for that too!

"Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load. This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed."

Dev channel update to 96.0.1028.0 is live
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 96.0.1028.0 to the Dev channel, and as you can see, it’s already time for version 96!
This is a particularly exciting week for multiple reasons though, first and foremost because we’re almost done rolling out the new version of Edge to mobile devices!
This has some big implications: first, if you came here from the Update Welcome page, you saw that it means sending tabs between devices is now supported on mobile. Additionally, that means our favorites deduplication code is now on mobile, so we’re retiring that Known Issue today.

We also have nearly finished rolling out the new version of Edge on Xbox as well! For right now, it won’t exactly match the version number of Edge on other devices since it gets shipped with the Xbox OS, but it should be close! Finally, we haven’t forgotten our desktop users; we’ve got an overview of some of our recent family-friendly features: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2021/09/23/our-top-new-features-are-designed-to-put-your.... In terms of what’s brand new this week:

Added features:
  • Added a shortcut button in Settings to personalize the Web Widget.
  • Added a Setting on iOS to restore tabs on startup.
  • Added the ability to swipe to close tabs on iOS.
  • Features enabled by default:
    • The ability to view downloaded Office files directly in the browser.
    • The ability to edit payment card information prior to uploading it to Microsoft Pay.
  • Management policies from Chromium that we have enabled support for:
    • Control if the Audio Process will have High Priority Enabled, which is a temporary measure to work around issues with audio capture when the audio process is running at normal priority.
    • Set the Print Rasterize Pdf Dpi, which controls the resolution PDFs are printed at when printing them using rasterization.
    • Control the Print PostScript Mode, which controls the speed and quality that certain fonts print at.
As always, since we’re onto version 96 here, look for version 95 to hit Beta in its next release, and make sure you’ve got 94 in Stable since it was just released there!

Microsoft Edge Apps Interface refreshed with Grid view, Sorting options and more

Microsoft Edge browser along with Chrome supports Progressive Web Apps for a long time. You can able to manage installed PWAs and sites installed as Apps by going to the edge://apps page. This page has been updated by Microsoft with a new look behind a flag. The company says they’re bringing an “improved and refreshed experience” for Edge Apps interface to users with the new design.

First look at edge://apps new Interface

Microsoft must think everyone primarily uses touchscreens with their "refreshed" look. Another thing with all this visual feature bloat is that the basic settings get lost in all the clutter, especially privacy settings. Most users can't be bothered to wade through all this junk.

The almighty touchscreen is also why Windows 11 looks like it does, .

Unfortunately, there just aren't many settings or flag options. Edge is what it is for now. There are things I really like, and then there is the all the rest ... Although there will be a couple of Chromium features coming, e.g. changes to caching, etc. in the future.

What is your Edge setup now?

There are plenty more, but this is just to keep stability...but i have not seen any problems with siteloading on firefox, so i dont often tend to use edge... when using microsoft defender it feels better to use edge + anti-exploit from windows

Top Feedback Summary for September
Why, hello there, Insiders! As mentioned last month, we are moving these updates to once a month. Welcome to September’s Top Feedback update! We are talking about several items this month, including one being marked as Addressed. As expected, moving to a monthly posting cadence provides y’all with larger details on where we are with your feedback, and this update will go over all of those changes!

Before hopping into this month’s update, there are a couple of things that should be noted. We have moved to our 4-week release cadence with Edge 94, now in our Stable channel. Additionally, Beta will receive Edge 95 this week, making Edge 96 the base version this month in Canary and Dev channels. For our Mac Insiders, this means that the new update experience is on its way to you in Beta! Additionally, in response to developer feedback, we updated our add ons website to let you sign in to the Partner Center using GitHub! And last, but certainly not least, a very tiny bit of fanfare for the launch of the new Edge on Xbox.

Now onto your regular feedback updates! First, let’s talk about the good news of what is being Addressed this month. We finished rolling out pick up where you left off for PDFs! This means that you can now easily continue from where you exited in a PDF, just like you can a Word document or PowerPoint deck. We have been continuously iterating on our PDF reader outside of this list, too. Over the past month, we also implemented the ability to add text to any part of the PDF, making it much easier to input text when a PDF doesn’t seem to be editable. Keep the feedback coming, the team is listening and wants to ensure the PDF reader is the best tool for you.

While we aren’t updating the status to a couple of items here, we did want to ensure you all had updates for them in this month’s post. For Allow users to put individual tabs to sleep, we’ve implemented a new option in Settings to help address the feedback we heard from y’all. You can now set your inactive tabs to be slept after 30 seconds of inactivity so more of your tabs go to sleep faster, resulting in less need to wait or take the time to put them to sleep individually. We continue to monitor feedback, but if you would like us to know about other changes you’d like to see for sleeping tabs, be sure to head over to the discussion thread and leave us a comment!

Next up, an update for Provide an option to prevent auto-play of video and audio when you open a website. We have taken a look at feedback on this issue and identified two key items here; first, we have fixed the Limit option for Media Autoplay to be more aligned with Chrome, and second, we have made Limit the default in Edge 93. Since then, we have seen a 75% drop in feedback around autoplaying media. We have also added additional logging that can help diagnose any new feedback around autoplay and continue to listen to your feedback as you send it in. We’ll leave this on the list until next month as we keep an ear out for other reports; at that point we will consider this Addressed.

Now onto your feedback around a couple of tabs requests. We are moving Add ability to close tabs via double-click to Planned! While we do not have a time frame in which you can expect to see this right now, but we will update you here once we have more to share. Please do hop into its discussion thread to let us know more about how this would benefit you (or if you think it shouldn’t be an option, that’s valid feedback, too). Users can move Vertical Tabs to the right side of the screen has no update, but the team continues to review feedback around this, so please send that in for them!

Not seeing an update for something that you have been waiting for? Know that the team is still looking at feedback for these items, or working hard on the ones we have already planned. We’d love to continue to hear from you, so please head to the menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let us know what you would like to see in the browser to help your browsing experience, or to let us know of any issues you’ve spotted. We look forward to seeing your thoughts!

Edge can now turn your collections into Citations
There has been some rumour that Edge Collections are going away, but Microsoft has continued to plough ahead with developing the feature, and their latest addition may just have made it an essential tool for students.

Edge Canary now supports turning your collection of websites into a list of Citations in either AP7, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE and MLA format.

The feature will make it easy for students to show their research when writing papers.

The new Citations feature is currently in Edge Canary and unfortunately only in controller roll-out, meaning Microsoft is testing it with only a small portion of Edge Canary users. I am sure many students can not wait for it to become more widely available.
