Serious Discussion Microsoft Edge Stable (Chromium) Now Available for Download

Was "visual search" present in the previous version?
It has been present for long time with this version now it has this new dedicated toggle to turn it on and off.
I had to look through settings to find it. I presume it's based on Chromium/Google's "Search with lens" feature.

My search in the address bar and other search settings changed again without my knowledge. Don't know if it was this update or an earlier one. This is the #1 reason I don't use Edge. At least Google doesn't change my settings like this. MS just won't quit trying force users to use certain features and settings.🖕 Edge!

i liked the shorter settings menu!!
I don't know what you're talking about, because it is more compact and coherent. Unless you have a different version, which I doubt, because this seems to have rolled-out to everyone.

Version 138.0.3351.55 introduces some interesting changes and new features, such as AI-powered history search. This feature allows you to find sites in your history using synonyms, phrases, or misspelled words. Microsoft uses an on-device model, which does not send your data anywhere. Note that this feature is rolling out gradually, which means it might take a few days or weeks to show up on your system.

Another useful change is new performance notifications. Performance and Extensions Detector notifications may appear in the main menu when the browser detects performance dips to help users learn about available performance-optimization tools.

Autofill settings received a new consent toggle, which allows Microsoft to improve the autofill capabilities by collecting field names as you browse. This only applies to field names, such as "First Name, "Email," etc. It does not send the data you enter or autofill to Microsoft.

Other changes include the following:
  • Use the Primary work profile as the default profile to open external links. With this feature, for Windows, Edge checks if the Primary Work Profile exists and makes it the default profile for opening external links if available.
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat Summarization in Microsoft Edge Context Menu. This feature helps users quickly unpack and ask questions about their open page.
  • Copilot on the Microsoft Edge New Tab Page (NTP). Users may see suggested work and productivity-related Copilot prompts in their search box on the NTP page.
  • Adding support for viewing Sensitivity labels applied to a Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) Protected PDF. Enterprise customers can view sensitivity labels applied to MIP protected PDF to be well informed of the data classification to enable them to handle such sensitive documents.

A couple of days ago I noticed that an online FPS game that I play made Edge run in the background. There was no indication that Edge was running. I only realized after I heard a notification sound from my "Checker Plus for Gmail" extension while I was playing the game.
There was also this process in task manager named, "Game assist" with Edge's logo. After searching online, I realized that it's a feature that has been added recently to Windows's Game Bar function 😕 My game happens to be on the list of supported games, so game assist runs when I run the game. Game Assist basically means that it runs MS Edge in the background.
Game assist can be uninstalled but on reddit some users said that it comes back when Edge is updated. Maybe uninstalling game bar disables it. Users who have uninstalled game bar probably won't experience this. I don't want to uninstall game bar for some reasons, so I did this instead after finding it on reddit.

Nah, this stupid piece of **** returns after every Edge update

I saw on Microsoft Edge reddit multiple people say that this question marks on every extensions from Microsoft store is a bug, that has been fixed on Edge v139 in the insider channels but I dont know if this is true or not because I dont use Edge insider builds

Is there any extension that doesn't have this question mark on it? If every extension gets it so it is a bug, but the question then is why only Microsoft Edge alone gets all these bugs, while other browsers even ones managed by one person (Floorp for example) doesn't get as many bugs?
