Today is a big day for Windows 11 users, as Microsoft has finally started rolling out this year's Windows 11 feature update. Version 25H2, announced a couple of months ago, is now publicly available for download and installation.
Windows 11 version 25H2 is based on version 24H2, and it shares its code base and servicing branch, just like Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2. That means that all the new features that Windows 11 version 25H2 will receive will also be available on Windows 11 version 24H2. In fact, if you have already installed this month's non-security update for Windows 11 version 24H2, which was released on Monday, you already have all the good stuff. Same features will be in version 25H2 as well.
Existing users will be able to update to Windows 11 version 25H2 using an enablement package or eKB. This means that updating from version 24H2 to 25H2 will be quick and without major changes (and bugs). However, if you are on Windows 11 version 22H2 or 23H2, you will get a full system upgrade, which will take more time, and also introduce all the nuances of the 24H2/25H2 branch with its known issues and quirks.
