On the night before Thanksgiving, my mother was trying to find an online manual to her roaster, and she downloaded something called FileFinder, which claimed to be able to find the manual. A day after, she began to have tabs open up to a website called check24.setting4upgrade, claiming her Java or Flash Player were out of date.
I looked up the instructions to remove it by Stelian , and helped her follow all the steps except for the optional Step 6, which concerns the router, as we don't believe the router was infected, due to my computer and my brother's, which are both connected to the same router as hers is, have not been infected by anything.
She's still getting the tabs opening up, and they keep taking her to the same page where it says that her Flash Player is out of date. She hasn't clicked on anything on the page or downloaded it, as she's well aware it's a virus.
Now we're unsure what to do. I plan on helping her start her computer up as Administrator in Safe Mode, so we can see if she can restore her computer to how it was prior to downloading FileFinder.
Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.
