I did have Chirons setup on Comodo too like I did before, wonder if any of the settings give me the bad comodo experience? Possibility of setting it up with default settings?

Updated

Removed CIS (was having too many issues) added Avast and Zone Alarm Firewall Free. Added Win Patrol Plus in there, keeps a good eye on things happening.

I have read that too. Will possibly give that a go if I don't like Zone Alarm. Not sure on how exactly to tweak Avast of ZA yet lol

So this post is pretty dated now but I have since got my new PC up and running and was able to get hold of Bitdefender Antivirus 2013 for as little as £2 so thought I would give it a go :p is there anyone who can recommend specific settings for it to achieve maximum protection or if the autopilot mode adequate? I was also wanting to go with a stand alone firewall and not a suite this time, what are the best firewalls around atm, in your opinions? I will add in some scanners like Malwarebytes and Hitman too.

I have been reading that Bitdefender is a very good AV too, what do you guys think of it?

Thanks,

Luke

I have AMD FX 6100 six core 3800+ with 16gig RAM, should be ok I think. You know of any tweaks for it to run better? Also which firewall do you rate? I was just lookinf at the online armor free one on their website.

Decided to go with Online Armor free for the firewall. There appears to be a lot of settings for OA even with it being free. I have Malwarebytes free but was wondering if there was any worth in getting a real tiume scanner or companion?

MBAM is not worth the shot as companion

Ok but I was wondering IF I needed a companion or do I not need 1? Other than Hitman Pro is there any others that do as good of a job than it does?

Cheers

With Bit Defender , unless you are paranoid like me, you need nothing else. For on-demand scanners , HMP is enough. Anyway you don't really need an installed on-demand scanner, put them on your usb, and run them from it once a month.

Is there anything better or on par with Hitman Pro? Also looking for a uninstaller that works like Revo uninstaller?

Unbra, I know from looking at your configs and sigs you are a big using of the Emsisoft software, do you have any recommendations in the way the free Online Armor firewall is configured?

Thanks,

Luke

You could use VT Hash Check with Firefox using the Download Statusbar add-on.

An alternate to Revo Uninstaller (Free) would be IObit Uninstaller (Free & Portable).

Cheers, I've got IObit and it does a great job :) thanks.

Since yesterday I have stopped using Firefox, was getting crashes when enabling the shockwave flash in the addons. Chrome does a fine job for me, I just need to install some addons for this now :)

Would Zemana Antilogger be a good purchase and as helpful as Hitman?

Thanks,

Luke

Online Armor has HIPS which can be effective at preventing Loggers, if you understand what the programs telling you.

If you do want to use Zemana AntiLogger, the Free version protects all keystrokes for all of the supported applications. And yes it's Windows 64-bit compatible, I'm currently using it.

most firewall's tweaks will be personal settings adapted to your network; so i don't have any special recommendations on it.
