Interface Feedback
In general, the UI is well-organized, but it appears to be outdated and has a lot of room for improvement.
- 1 star deducted for the mismatch between My Norton interface (seems to be modern) and Norton 360 interface (seems to be outdated)
- 1 star deducted for the problematic Security History interface, which is prone to crashing when there are a lot of logs to display.
Usability
4.00 star(s)
Usability Feedback
- 1 star deducted for the relatively high FP rate, as per my experience and AV-C results.
- 1 star deducted, because you can't close multiple notifications with a single click.
- 1 star added for fast full system scan, thanks to the Norton Community reputation data.
Performance and System Impact
5.00 star(s)
Performance and System Impact Feedback
Norton is one of the lightest AV products I've ever used. Almost no impact on system performance.
- 1 star deducted for the relatively high system resource usage when removing threats.
- 1 star added for the excellent overall performance.
Protection

Protection Feedback
According to the results of my testing and independent testing organizations, Norton offers best-in-class protection against all types of malware.
Scan engine: 4 stars. (Machine learning-based detection is great. For Signature-based detection, in some cases, a small change to sample will cause Norton to fail to detect. Detections like Trojan.Gen.X are solely based on sample hash. Also, in some cases, Norton is slower to respond to new threats than Kaspersky.)
Behavioral detection engine: 4 stars. (SONAR is doing a good job. It cannot, however, restore files that have been encrypted by ransomware. SONAR is reliant on a reliable internet connection.)
Firewall / IPS: 5 stars. Best-in-class.
Safeweb: 5 stars. It's nice and can effectively block online threats.

  9. Effective malicious URL blocking
  10. Virus signatures are updated very often
  11. Excellent scores in independent tests

Cons
  1. Relatively expensive
  2. Advanced users may want more control
  3. Short on configuration options
  4. Clumsy or awkward interface (UI)
  5. Includes links to paid-for components
  6. Nags about purchasing other version
  7. Higher than average false positives

"Many readers were surprised to learn recently that the popular Norton 360 antivirus suite now ships with a program which lets customers make money mining virtual currency. But Norton 360 isn’t alone in this dubious endeavor: Avira antivirus — which has built a base of 500 million users worldwide largely by making the product free — was recently bought by the same company that owns Norton 360 and is introducing its customers to a service called Avira Crypto."
