New Update Osprey Browser Protection discussion and updates

does this mean for the effectiveness of this extension?
@Shadowra time for a retest?
Probably not good..... I really loved the idea of this project but it appears AV vendors don't like competition. This could have been a very successful project, but I never understood why people gave this poor developer a hard time.

Now with the removal of G DATA only Norton (disabled by default) remains of the traditional AV providers.

Indeed... I'm afraid that this will deal a blow to Osprey in terms of efficiency...

I haven't finished adapting everything for the new videos, but I'll try to retest it quickly, well before any of the changes I have planned.

Norton was just removed in version 1.4.0. Apart from alphaMountain and PrecisionSec, this is essentially a DNS extension.
Within the next few months, more (non-DNS-based) providers should be joining the project. Even with Osprey's default settings, it still boasts an incredible phishing detection rate of nearly 100%. So, don't worry. Osprey's current providers and default settings are more than enough.

Can't wait to see who the new providers are.

I mean... technically you could always download older version of the extension and keep the old providers... Or you could use the source code to add/remove additional providers.

Personally I think its somewhat churlish of providers wishing to be removed.
Why? It totally makes sense though. They developed a security solution which was supposed to be used only as part of their own security software, not others. Osprey took the technology and implemented it without their consent.

If their solution is used in another product that isn't developed by them, this could hurt their user base; part of their users, switching to alternative platform offering their solution and more. Then there's the question of the brand itself, because it could make them look cheap. The whole purpose of free product is to make you more familiar with their brand, they actually earn money from. This is why all free security software has ads that show their product portfolio.

In general, 0Spray did not take other vendors' solutions, but just took other developers' analysis results—after all, this is not reverse engineering of someone else's product. Technically, all providers continue to receive data about which sites users visit, as well as receive advertising for their paid products when users see detections from their APIs. But either the vendors lack enough anonymized data and want to collect more analytics, or they fear competition with other providers and comparisons in combat conditions, or they are really rude and greedy. :)

Why do i have a feeling some members went behind this developers back and reported him and had the providers contact him about removal? This seems to be an issue here on the regular.... This happened on tridents YouTube video as well someone on the forums reported his video. Appears we got a few moles here and unfortunately, we won't find them but they are present or maybe eventually we will.
