New Update Re-visit to AVG in 2025

So this is still a BETA anything can change but this is the new scanning progress bar they haven't really made any new changes. The fronts on the alerts are slightly different that's about it.

I like AVG/Avast progress bar; it more realistic compared to that of Kaspersky which may stay at 99% for an hour.

I’ve noticed a significant change in the frequency of AVG virus definition updates. Previously, updates occurred every few minutes; however, they are now polling much less frequently, often taking several hours or even longer between updates.

Could someone from AVG clarify if there has been a recent change to the default update interval, or if this indicates a potential sync issue with the update servers?

This isn’t normal behavior on my end. I recommend downloading AVG’s uninstaller tool, called ‘AVG Clear,’ and using it to completely remove the program. Then, perform a fresh installation. It sounds like there may be a corruption issue.

The free version updates 2-4 times daily (usually 3); I do not know how frequent the paid version.

best you do a clean uninstall and reinstall appears you have something that is corrupted all is good hear and I'm getting the updates. Install AVG on your PC, Mac | AVG installation files here is the uninstall tool.
Even after deleting all partitions to ensure a single unallocated space and doing a completely clean reinstall of Windows 11 Pro on it, I’m still seeing the same problem.

I’m sorry to hear you’re still having issues with AVG. Normally, I would suggest reaching out to support, but honestly, my experience with GenDigital support hasn’t been great. It seems like staff no longer actively review the forum threads, and most responses now come from other users. While that can be helpful for basic questions, it’s not very effective when it comes to reporting software issues or submitting system logs there doesn’t appear to be anyone from the company reviewing those. That said, AVG is still fairly stable overall, which is impressive given the lack of visible staff presence on the forums. You could try requesting a live chat with an agent, but in my experience, response times are quite slow, and the support I received wasn’t very helpful.

AVG Browser Defense performs its job very well and continues to prove its effectiveness. Even when data-stealing threats manage to bypass its antivirus component, it consistently detects and blocks their connection attempts. In this case, Avast’s engine demonstrates superior performance against stealers.

First time I’ve seen AVG CyberCapture in action 😎

Update: I was able to resolve the issue by using Revo Uninstaller Pro to scrub away residual AVG entries. Revo is a lifesaver—honestly, one of the few software tools I truly believe is worth the investment.

I beleive the primary issue stemmed from an 'overused' subscription status and although support had reset the counter for me, the error persisted.

It seems the standard uninstaller left behind remnants—likely in the registry or deep system folders—that were still flagging the "overused" status, and this where I think Revo’s deep clean did its magic, finally fixing it.

I’m not sure if these are just coincidental findings or not, but recently I’ve submitted several fresh malicious links from URLhaus to AVG/Avast, and they were not detected by either the signature engine or the behavior blocker within the product. For a major cybersecurity company like AVG/Avast, owned by Gen Digital, I would expect much better detection of newly reported malware from sources like URLhaus.

This issue is becoming increasingly noticeable to me. Has Avast/Gen Digital started going downhill in terms of protection quality? Around six months ago, their detection and response seemed much more effective, but lately it feels like they’ve taken a significant hit in performance and reliability. It seems Gendigital has taken a downturn in terms of false positives and malware detection, with a noticeable decline over the past six months.
