AV-Comparatives Real-World Protection Test Feb-Mar 2022 – Factsheet

Disclaimer
  1. This test shows how an antivirus behaves with certain threats, in a specific environment and under certain conditions.
We encourage you to compare these results with others and take informed decisions on what security products to use.
Before buying an antivirus you should consider factors such as price, ease of use, compatibility, and support. Installing a free trial version allows an antivirus to be tested in everyday use before purchase.

The Malware Protection test is very different from the Real World test, although both were done by AV-Comparatives.
While in the Real-World Protection Test the vector is the web, in the Malware Protection Test the vectors can be e.g. network drives, USB or cover scenarios where the malware is already on the disk.

The readers should be aware that the above results of the Malware Protection test are not related to the results discussed in this thread.

In the Malware Protection test the samples are much older and much more prevalent compared to the Real World test. The best protection for such malware is an AV based on the file reputation lookup (like Norton). Because the files are prevalent, a good file reputation lookup can produce a similar number of false positives as other AVs. The opposite is true in the Real-World tests - Norton can be a good example.
