Real-World Protection Test July-August 2024 – Factsheet

Disclaimer
  1. This test shows how an antivirus behaves with certain threats, in a specific environment and under certain conditions.
We encourage you to compare these results with others and take informed decisions on what security products to use.
Before buying an antivirus you should consider factors such as price, ease of use, compatibility, and support. Installing a free trial version allows an antivirus to be tested in everyday use before purchase.

Kaspersky has the least false positive as always, which make it more reliable than other antivirus except Bitdefender, but again Kaspersky will beat Bitdefender in performance section.

The odd is that this is the first time I see a difference in false positive between Avast and AVG while they have the same engine, and Gen Digital products in general have more false positive with every new test.

kaspersky is behind Avast, AVG, Norton, Avira, Bitdefender, F-Secure, G-Data and McAfee in this test. Several antiviruses beat kaspersky in ComssRU test too. CommsRU is very reliable source maybe the best.
In the following test, 360 Total Security was ranked first, despite being a mediocre antivirus. So I have doubts about how reliable their testing is.

In the time I used Avast and recently playing around with Norton 24, most of the false positives I got were on perfectly normal webpages most included wrongfully in their URL blacklist, not even a malware detection. Actually it was a problem years ago as well.

They are quite fast to remove these mistakes but they shouldn't even happen. I did a quick analysis on some and there was nothing on the page or outgoing connections even remotely suspicious.

I can't say I ever came across a file false positive only once it flagged a relatively new application as suspicious but it was understandable as it messed with policies and registry values.
