I only wonder, what is the difference between safe browsing and extension regarding the methodology of detection; both rely on definitions without decrypting https traffic.
 
Safe Browsing (WebAV module) not only relies on in definition:

Does it mean the application "the antivirus" can do the injection without the need for the extension?
In such case, it has no essential role.
 
I also use Traffic Light extension. I find that's enough really - while it may not catch phishing much?? it protects against malware, although it does have false positives as well, unlike kaspserksy.

Phishing websites are as dangerous as malicious ones; stealing your credit card or online banking account credentials can cost you a lot of money.

All of them have false positive detections; the least with Kaspersky, while Symantec is on the top of list.
Extensions, as Trafficlight, rely on blacklist definitions; more than one time, the extension report search result or website as safe, meanwhile it get detected by antivirus web protection.
