Maybe you can take a system image of your machine on 8.1 before you upgrade to 10...
That way you have still got 10 for free, but can switch back if you don't like it.:)
Your bookmarks will be saved through your browser rather than your OS.

Please backup your bookmarks first should the unthinkable happen. I did the same mistake twice, i forgot my Google Chrome pass code and lost all of my bookmarks/extensions. I assume you're on chrome so read this on how to export your bookmarks into a HTML file, if you're on a different browser a simple Google Search should help you. Windows 10 is great, i would upgrade, besides its free!

once you made the upgrade, you snagged your win10 licence key, and you can just go back to your old OS for as long as you want. You will always have your legal win10 licence key -- on that machine -- whenever you want it. As soon as you reinstall win10 on your machine at any time thereafter, it will connect to microsoft and identify your licence key, even a year later.

Can you grab a free copy of 10 and not install it till later (like a month or a year?)

Would the older OS like 7 Pro or Home still be of use or does the legit key turn into OS version 10?

Would a trial version of Windows 7 be able to upgrade to 10?
