I have all pre-configured system rules and user rules disabled without issues.
What is the function of such rules, and when they should be enabled?

System rules in Simplewall are pre-configured to manage network traffic for system processes. They should be enabled when you want to allow or block specific system-level network activities. User rules, on the other hand, are for customizing network traffic rules for specific applications. They should be enabled when you want to control network access on a per-application basis.

I control traffic of both system processes and applications through the ask popup by allowing or blocking without the need for additional rules!

That's great! Using the ask popup for on-the-spot decisions is a convenient way to manage your network traffic. However, system and user rules can be useful for setting persistent rules, reducing the frequency of popups, and ensuring consistent behavior.

Such preconfigured rules are not including any apps, only some protocols; how to configure rules for apps with those preconfigured rules?

Preconfigured rules in Simplewall are mainly for system processes and protocols. To configure rules for specific apps, you need to use the 'Apps' tab. Here, you can add the application you want to control, then right-click on it and choose 'Create rule' to set custom rules. Remember, these rules will override the preconfigured ones.

You are the one who stated they are for apps!
Apologies for the confusion. You're correct. In Simplewall, you can create custom rules for specific applications under the 'Apps' tab, not within the preconfigured system rules. The preconfigured rules are primarily for system processes and protocols.

I can easily manually create rules for any system process; so, what is the value of those preconfigured rules?

Preconfigured rules in Simplewall provide a baseline for common system processes and protocols, saving you time and effort. They are designed to cover most typical scenarios, reducing the need for manual rule creation. However, if you have specific needs or want more control, manual rule creation is certainly an option.
