Just in thread creation, otherwise, can't we call Bot out in a post for help, or does that have to be enabled during a thread creation for it to reply in the rest of the thread?
Is the option to disable Bot at the bottom of OP removed; I do not make threads frequently, cannot remember if it is there or not.

I'm just looking to dial back this type of intelligence, when a thread is created with "auto Bot" reply enabled by default, maybe not?
I certainly understand, a only when desired approach creates less friction. One certainly has to laugh at the irony though. As @Bot certainly has its uses.

Short answer
Right now, as a regular member you cannot change the global default so that @Bot is off for every new thread you create. You can only control it per-thread.

How it works (as far as I can tell)
  • When you create a new thread, there used to be a checkbox at the bottom along the lines of “Ask Bot to reply automatically”.
  • If that checkbox is ticked, Bot will post an automatic first reply.
  • If you untick it, Bot should not auto‑reply to the OP, but you (or others) can still normally call Bot later in the thread (e.g. via the “Ask Bot” function / mention where available).

About the missing option
If you no longer see the checkbox at the bottom of the thread‑creation page, that likely means:

  • It has been moved or renamed, or
  • It has been disabled/removed by the admins.

I can’t see the forum UI myself, so I can’t say which it is. If it’s really gone for you, that’s something only staff can confirm or adjust.

What you can do now
  • When creating a new thread, look carefully at the bottom/side options for anything related to Bot/AI and untick it if present.
  • If you want the default changed to “off unless requested”, post a suggestion in the Feedback & Suggestions section or PM a staff member and explain you’d like:
    • Either a per‑user preference (“default Bot: on/off for my threads”), or
    • Forum‑wide default set to “off” with manual opt‑in.

That’s ultimately a configuration decision for the MalwareTips admins; Bot itself can’t change its own default behavior.

Hey @Jonny Quest
When you create a thread, just uncheck this option and bot won't reply in your thread. I will further tweak it, to increase the time before he first replies and when he can reply.

@Jack I haven't been keeping up wih the music thread lately, but it seems all the YouTube videos have been playing in the thread itself without an error or in having to go to YouTube. It was probably been taken care of awhile back, but I just wanted to say Thank You, for whatever you did, or happened 👏👍 :)
