The intrigues me as I am tempted by windows defender, it's more that with my surfing habits and computer usage my AV doesn't do anything and I was looking to go through a free route because of this reason

What does the configuration do? Could I not changing things manually?
You can, by using PowerShell (Set-MpPreference, Add-MpPreference, and Remove-MpPreference cmdlets ). On Windows Pro the settings can be also changed via GPO.

It is my opinion.
Free AV is a limitation of function and it is a point that we have to solve problems on our own when trouble, I think that it is necessary to have reasonable knowledge to master it.

I can understand your feelings that you feel doubtful whether your healthy person needs to pay the life insurance.
If you have the skill that can solve it when infection or problems occur, Bitdefender Free is "yes", but if you have any doubts there, we recommend you continue using Emisi.

I used Bitdefender Free for about a year now, and I love it! One thing I hate is lack of support. Other than that, it is a great product that doesn't give you ads, pop up, and unnecessary stuff that you don't need at all.

Check in the task manager (click on "Disk" tab to sort) to see what process is using 100% disk, it must be the update process of Bitdefender.

Literally, the only pop up I get is when running games installed through steam and had to add them to the exclusion.

The endless 'Steam' popups for Emsisoft drove me to the point of getting a refund after getting dozens of complaints a week from family. Anyway, I've heard the Emsisoft BB has been sleepy lately, forgot where I read that, maybe in the HUB?

Just run Bit Defender Free, combo it with OSArmor, and maybe a malware blocking DNS like Norton and you are probably better off, without spending a dime.

I got a refund from Bitdefender, Crashing , Stopping and corrupting Windows updates etc.
The admitted they have problems with the WIndows Updates, they download but will not install.

Can't run Windows Update after installing Bitdefender 2017

The definitions are good, but their Internet Software package is buggy.

Are you finding most AV's to be buggy junk?

That's what the boys found in the lab. That's my personal experience as well.. Unfortunately NONE of them appear to be good, solid, reliable products that don't increase your threat surface.. Sad state.

I've tried them all personally, and still can't find happiness with them to the point I've almost given up.

Bitdefender was offered for free by my ISP. I used it and I can say it killed my system and it is buggy. I would stay away from Bitdefender. If I were you I’d stay with Emsisoft they’re great and the price is reasonable.

Dont like alot of AV . Norton crahses. Bitdefender blocks Windows Updates. And Kaspersky its good but when i install it it feels for me like the Kremlin is watching haha Gonna keep G-Data for me the most stable one and they improved the updates speed and BB.

I use Bitdefender Free on one PC. Set and forget it, no popups, quiet and trouble free. So I have no complaints with BD.

I use several PCs, including one in my home entertainment center for watching TV and playing games. Rarely open a web browser on that one unless I am installing or updating something. It is running Windows 7 Pro.

I also have a paid AV with several licenses available, that I use on my main PC, yet I prefer to run this little freebie on my entertainment center. So I guess it depends on your usage and needs. I feel that with the unintrusive behavior and low impact, along with with the high detection rate, it works great for a gaming or entertainment center. But for heavy web usage I would probably choose something else.

I'm an average, safe user and now use WD + ConfigureDefender + Commodo Firewall +CruelSister settings. Very nice and light. I needed free and secure without needing to be a geek. (No offense to experienced members/users) A bit of a learning curve for me after Sophos Home Free + TinyWall. And as others have said, it depends on your needs/usage. Maybe if it ain't broke.....
