App Review TotalAV Antivirus 2025

It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.

TotalAV is an all-in-one antivirus: Antivirus, VPN, Web protection, Adblock etc.
However, TotalAV has some very dubious practices, such as nagging you to upgrade to the paid version...
Let's put it to the test!

User interface :
The interface is very simple, suitable for novices.
Very few settings are available, which may delight novices but put off geeks.
On the other hand, TotalAV forces the user to checkout even though the trial version is not yet finished...

Web protection: 8/8
All links have been blocked

Fake crack : 1/1
Blocked at launch (Avira Cloud)

Malware Pack : Remaining 36 out of 125
On launch, TotalAV correctly blocks threats, but doesn't indicate what the detection is, or which module it's reacting to! Which is a shame.
A script was run but not connected, and the Trigona Ransomware encrypted the system.

Final scan : Trigona Ransomware encrypted programs. Unable to run a scan.

Final opinion:
TotalAV has certainly improved, but offers fairly basic protection and doesn't inform you about the module it has reacted to.
However, the numerous solicitations to pay for a license with very aggressive promotions sometimes border on harassment, which can frighten the user... (urgent need)

TotalAV is also detected by Malwarebytes as a PUP, which can also damage its trustworthiness...
For all these reasons, which I consider intolerable, I advise against using TotalAV.

Thank you for your detailed review and test of TotalAV Antivirus 2025. It's unfortunate to hear about the issues you've encountered, particularly with the aggressive upgrade prompts and lack of detailed threat information. Your insights will be very helpful for users considering this antivirus software.

Although it is “effective” (re-branded from Avira), it offers only basic protection, and its numerous harassments to pay may irritate users...

Thanks for your input. It's clear that while TotalAV may offer some protection, its aggressive marketing tactics and basic features may not suit all users. Your feedback is valuable for those considering this software.

Several years ago this happened to me with Comodo. It was disgusting.

I contacted support using a free version of CFW due to a bug. They did respond, and offered me a live session to find a workaround. I had to download AnyDesk or TeamViewer (can't remember if they had their own software to do this instead). The thing is they did some tweaks and said they recommended the paid version. I said i'd buy later (to finish the session) and the support guy said he'd wait for me, opened Comodo's website, clicked "buy" and told me to insert my credit card information on the screen, while he waited patiently for me to buy.

I literally closed the session window out of cringe.

It's very strange to see such a result, because Avira is known as a good antivirus. Perhaps this company rented their cheapest software, or rented it in some shortened format.

I am not surprised by this case. If I remember, a few years ago, their official representative (maybe even the head) was very aggressive in promoting their product, getting into disputes and responding aggressively to criticism.

There was an ad on the Sky News app that I found amusing advising of a quick hidden hack on an iPhone to remove ads etc - This was Total AV for mobiles, I wont say it was dishonest but the whole ad was somewhat misleading - Enough to see a leopard never change its spots, I'd rather have no AV than use these people. They can't help themselves I think, they started out baldly & haven't changed.

Maybe uninformed users buy this when looking for an alternative to Defender when first infected thinking more dollar spent equates with better protection??
It's recommended as one of the best antiviruses by a number of somewhat questionable review sites. As a result, if people are looking for the best antivirus, they quite often will end up on one of these sites which recommend it, which will sadly lead to a lot of people buying it.

Yes and offered at a big discount which will be recovered when the auto-renewal kicks in further down the line.

Regards Eck :)
