Battle Trend micro or Mcafee ?

Trend Micro or Mcafee
Yeah, McAfee does offer VPN through the company they acquired (TunnelBear), whilst Trend Micro offers VPN only in Premium Security, which is mainly sold directly and very expensive. McAfee also offers anti-scam, including for phones, DeepFake detector for Windows and Android, Social Network Protection, Identity Monitoring and Email Scanning which supports Yahoo, Outlook and Gmail.

Trend Micro offers Fraud Buster (or Email Defender now) which scans emails previewed in browser through the extension for signs of scam. But it won’t work on phones or when local email client is used. In terms of features, McAfee offers more.

Yeah however as many people on MalwareTips as well as other places perceive the Trend Micro performance impact as negligible, I avoided placing McAfee as a winner. In my personal opinion though, McAfee is lighter.
I just tried being as objective as possible.
so far for me running McAfee the performance impact is negligible. Initially I favor Trend but McAfee may grow on me...

I am mainly focused on the technicalities behind them, not so much on their popups and prompts (which probably has become evident by now).

McAfee is not just resting on their laurels and old money, they are clearly committed to rapid innovation (based on all patents which they’ve filed and received).

There is a McAfee patent that describes a feature that will probably be released somewhere in the future:
Targetted scan based on user input.

So user writes symptoms (e.g. browser popups, slow PC), McAfee parses these symptoms, uses AI to understand them and performs targeted scan for malware that can produce these symptoms.

yeah I may keep McAfee into next year, but not at $119 -- at least they disclosed this upfront.

I would go with McAfee over trend micro, since it offers better web protection, identity protection and vpn that trend micro maximum security ( wich is cheapest to buy ) dont include.

I have like 8 years of trend micro licenses and 4 years of mcafee licenses to be used, as i stacked them too.

Also if you want to use antivirus on android, its better to choose McAfee as it supports more browsers than trend micro ( unless you enable trend micros vpn mode)

I've used Trend for some time & just looked on records & its still on 3 PC's I 'look after' & still have well over over a year licences - I last used it on this PC early this year & for reasons I cannot remember gave an issue after several attempts to fix meant it was removed, but another issue I had was slowing down my internet speed unacceptably using a VPN which was Proton - It did 'seem' Trend was adding features to their product that did again 'seem' cobbled on - Out of pure interest I will when I have time install Trend & see what happens - ?

If Mcafee is found to have issues I will use another AV - Eventually in the fullness of time I end up gravitating back to Emsisoft, this has happened so many times?

I just installed McAfee as a test...and now I'm back to Emsisoft. :D

I find the McAfee UI Window hard to find though :-)

McAfee is too "opaque" and too "possessive" regarding my data. Emsisoft is much more forthcoming about configuration when I request it and very conservative in its operation.
I hope I made myself clear. Google Translate's translation is sometimes a bit odd.
I'm holding the fort with McAfee, & still here :p:p:p

That's right, I have to agree. McAfee's privacy remains a mystery. I don't think it's obscure, but the question remains?

That's right, Emsisoft is more transparent with its data. Every month, they send out emails with product updates and security newsletters from their blog.

Same as all the other AV, dont think Emsi does not collect any data, since you are using Windows, i dont get the point of being scared if any AV collect data.
Since Windows does it too. Want more privacy, use a Linux Distro.
This.

I don't mind data collection if it is being used for good, like sending info about viruses. Also, one of the reasons why I use a third-party AV instead of windows defender is so that Microsoft doesn't get any more of my data than they already have. They already collect more than enough.
