I was reading several posts on this site regarding filter lists for UbO with some recommending Custom Filter Lists which I found on the Filter List site and added.

As you can see in the attached image, I have disabled UbO filters because some suggested they are redundant.

My question is do you think my current filter lists are adequate enough for optimal performance of UbO, and browsing? I have not noticed any slowdowns.

My conclusions:
- the efficacy of each filter highly depends on the page you visit -> pick your best ones
- Larger list doesn't mean it's better. It may contain a lot of dead domains -> not valuable (example: notrack = ~220k entries -> still worse than top3000 list)
- These tracker-blocking lists don't have generic rules so they don't work in broad spectrum -> generic rule filters are highly valuable (like heuristics)

top3000 list was destroyed yesterday by Lenny_fox but it shines in my test -> my test sites use very common trackers, in the list of 3000
other lists, such as 1hosts and stevenblack, work better for less common trackers

wich filter is most efficient for cosmetic filtering
adguard english
adguard annoyances
adversity
adversity extreme measures
blockzilla (dead, I have an old copy)
ublock filters plus
Extremely Condensed Adblocking List
and your regional filters which have a lot of ## symbols in the files

there are a few more but they broke too many on my case

EDIT: add Extremely Condensed Adblocking List

Thanks for the test.

I use Top3000 as only filterlist with uBlockOrigin or AdGuard and sometimes I add Easylist Dutch to it. With my browsing habits Top3000 (and Top3000 plus Easylist Dutch) perform great.

I asked for other websites, because people always post that mileage may vary depending on surfing behavior, which the test with the websites your provided proved.

Anyway, nice discussion, I gained some insights thanks !

Another great test. Thanks.
Just want to add that, due to the ability to uncloak cname on Firefox, the number of blocked items is higher on Firefox.

Btw, your "Blocked since install" is 1.917M 😮 For how long have you been using this profile?

it's my test browser (chrome portable). I don't use it often. Only use it for testing malwares or phishing. I don't how it can reach that much
my main browser has much lower number than that

Yeah, removed 1hosts (mini) from Custom (again), only have phishing army blocklist extended in there (15835 / 15835).
Based on @Evjl's Rain test and my experience you could give Kees1958 Top3000 a try. Kees1958 top3000 did not do wel in my test in regard to connected domains. I ran uBo in default and uBo with Kees1958 Top3000 plus Dutch easylist and the latter outperformed uBo default (measured with uBo scope).

So based on the testing what filter lists would be optimal for protection and UbO performance? Default + Top3000 or just Default or some other recommendation. It becomes confusing.

all of them. more is better but not too many
make sure the total number of network + cosmetic filters is less than 300k. You will be fine
if you have a powerful PC, more than 300k is okay
[someone added >1 million rules, and he still said there was no lag. My browser couldn't handle 1 million rules]

I suggest you to start with:
- ublock default (+/- Online Malicious URL Blocklist)
- adguard base + AdGuard Annoyances
- Fanboy’s Enhanced Tracking List
- 1hosts mini
- stevenblack
- top3000
- Extremely Condensed Adblocking List
- 1 or some of your regional filters

I switched to your suggestions but on the website FilterLists there are several stevenblack filters, which one should I select? Thanks for your ongoing support, and suggestions.

Should i just enable Ublock Annoyance list to circumvent adblock warning messages?

I'm using UBlock annoyance list and Nano defender, yet am still not able to bypass adblock warnings while downloading from www.filecr.com

The included default lists or Peter Lowe's AdTracking list usually catches these though I've not seen a site warn me about ublock origin in a long time. so I expect the culprit is Nano Defender sending do not track requests to the site or something. Have you got an example?

a funny thing is:
1/ When I use my network WITHOUT router's ad filter: I downloaded photoshop, there was no message
2/ when I use my network with the router's ad filter (domain only): it showed the anti-adblock message
3/ Continue to case #2: I installed anti-adblock, nanodefender with all requirements -> same result -> no help

in both case, ublock was unchanged. It means this website may detect our adblockers via domains blocked.
you can try to check if something is filtering your network traffic besides ublock (hosts, pihole, router, DNS,...)
but if you do, I don't suggest turning them off. It's just 1 website

So to make sure I understood you, this is how I now configured my filters in Ub0. Top3000 and stevenblack follow each other consecutively on my filters page:

any reason why you don't add stevenblack and top3000 to the custom list? or you don't know how to do that?
adding them to my filter = they won't autoupdate

click on Import... (at the bottom) -> copy 2 links of stevenblack and top3000 -> Apply

adguard annoyances and fanboy's enhanced list are included as presets -> you can enable them by expanding Privacy or Annoyances
I also advice enabling all filters under Privacy

I'm not sure about adguard annoyances optimized. The original one has ~30k rules while this only has 18k
The Optimized version is based on opt-in telemetry by AdGuard, is light on memory and comments, and gets below iOS/Safari filter limits.
I think this filter is for ios devices, not for PC

Thanks for the instructions. I did not know to import those two files. One always learns something new on MT. I have attached screen shots of the modifications I made in the filters. I think it matches what you suggest. Please let me know.
