virus/malware from 1-888-392-2185

I had a pop up with that message to call to get rid of the malware. It would not let me close it. I would close the message and it would immediately reopen. It was accompanied by an Amber Alert like siren. I ran malwarebites virus program to see if I'm infected and no virus's found. I found a tip that I could close it by using Task Manager. I closed Edge and reopen Edge it was gone. Is that virus/malware still on my system when Malwarebites scan says I'm clean?
