Is Norton good enough?
I have noticed that it is light, but is it good enough, especially if the computer is offline?

It can be, if you're not a reckless PC user. Detections & removal shouldn't be a problem as you will be malware-free.
Norton uses Smart Definitions, where older definitions for old viruses, trojans etc. are not downloaded to your PC - saving bandwidth. I believe Norton has an auto-scan, that cannot be turned off.
Edit: You'll need to check if any products are compatible with W8.1U1 - It should be compatible since it's a Windows Update, not an upgrade - could be wrong.
