Patch My PC, the will known software update tool get a major update with version 5, but for me unfortunately it just become bloated without any added benefit to the older version 4.5, it is now installed rather than portable, it needs Microsoft .net runtime 8, its size far bigger, and it needs about 15 MB download for every check rather than <1 MB as it used to be, so now I'm looking for an alternative.

I tried to go back to version 4.5, but it will automatically update to version 5 in the next months as mentioned in Patch My PC website, so using version 4.5 will not work forever.

They only alternatives I can think about now is:

UniGetUI and UpdateHub are not choices for me because they suffer the same issues that Patch My PC have now.

I'm looking for something portable, small, with a good list of apps, any recommendations will be welcome.

You might want to consider SUMo (Software Update Monitor). It's lightweight, portable, and supports a wide range of applications. Another good alternative is Glarysoft's Software Update, which is also small in size and offers a comprehensive list of software updates.

You can also try RuckZuck.
I use all 3 (PatchMyPC, RuckZuck and UCheck). UCheck find the most updates. I only use them to find updates, but I prefer manually installing updates as sometimes updaters mess up the install.

You may want to try ScanCircle. There are two download options. The app download link takes you to the Microsoft Store, whereas the single scan version is portable. It finds many updates, but can't do any updates itself. Since updating to Windows 11 24H2, for me it is no longer showing the scan results. But there is a button which open the scan results in your default browser and that is working.

I just tried the new v5 of Patch My PC. While I like the new UI, I just get an error when it scans for updates, which is something that I never experienced with the old portable version. Hopefully the issue is fixed soon.

for me V5 finds new apps and missed apps that V4 already finds (Avast), and the updates failed 3 times while the app was already updated from the first scan, but it still shows the older version (Advanced Renamer), and that operation takes 375 MB depending on windows data usage statistics.

still UCheck finds more apps from although the apps that the app doesn't support (winget, community) so you can update manually if you want.

The new UCheck Beta.
A lot of false out of date issues are resolved with the new WindowsApps update.

WinGet CLI currently is good enough for most apps, you can configure Ketarin to check for the ones that are not supported by winGet, or if you prefer to download and install updates by yourself, UCkeck is good too, Major Geeks Updater finds most apps.

UPDATE:
It looks like Major Geeks SoftwareUpdater is just a GUI for WinGet, it doesn't show updates when available while their website already have the latest versions, so I think their updater is not checking their database, for me this is a useless approach.
I just tried it for first time and it is using Winget. It found 16 updates and WingetUI found 18. For some reason, it missed two updates. But the updates it did find, were the same as WingetUI.

I'm currently using UCheck it is lighter, smaller and finds all my apps, even portable ones, and it fixed previous issues with version detection of some community list apps.
