I know Session Manager is champs with the Firefox family, but what about the Chromium family?
My bias is not toward stark simplicity but toward the more options and configuration, the better.
By the way I just started a new computer with am unsynced Googe Chrome, and for "On Startup" setting, I chose "Continue where you left off". Nonetheless twice in a row it failed to do that and acted as though I had chosen the "Open the New Tab page" option.
