What movie are you watching or planning to watch?

Dexter Resurrection on Prime Paramount. Episode 1 was solid. It plausibly fits together original Dexter, with Dexter New Blood and now Resurrection.

I had not heard of it either. In US it streams on Starz according to IMDB where users rate it 7.2 (pretty good) and it won a BAFTA tv award. it has 7 episodes. Based on 5 books.

I never saw Dexter, but I did see the Dexter Early Cuts animated shorts on YouTube back in the day:

I never saw cartoon Dexter. The original Dexter is one of my all-time fav series (on my personal top 10 list) 8 seasons 96 episodes. Good to the last episode, although some "complaints" from viewers about the ending; hence some years later there's Dexter New Blood one season, and now Dexter Resurrection, which is a continuation of New Blood but with elements of original 2006 series. (no spoilers :p )

The 2010 Canadian psychedelic science fiction horror movie Beyond The Black Rainbow.

Beyond The Black Rainbow Official Trailer 1 (2012) HD:

Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010) Movie Review:

My Thoughts

I saw this movie a year or two ago for the first time.

It is a slow paced trippy art house science fiction horror movie.

That looks and feels like it was filmed in another time period.

While it was not as good as I had expected.

It is still worth seeing at least once for something unique, art house, weird, psychedelic, et cetera.

For many, it will be a one of a kind experience.

A good funny movie and oldie but goodie never gets old. scary movie 2. They don't make movies like this anymore!

Just finished watching the first series of Karen Pirie on ITV. I'm not usually one for ITV dramas but found it engaging and really enjoyed it. Series 2 already available which I'll check it out next time I have streaming time available :D 8/10 IMDB

The 2023 comedy drama movie American Fiction.

AMERICAN FICTION | Official Trailer:

The “Black Movie” appetite is changing. | American Fiction Movie Review + Analysis:

My Thoughts

It was good to see Jeffrey Wright leading a film & in a movie, again.

He does a good job in pretty much anything that he is in.

I like that this movie presented a black / African American family & characters in a less stereotypical way.

The dialogue & chemistry between them was more realistic, natural, et cetera.

I saw this movie last year, I think, so I am late to finally post this review.

Sadly, I am the only person I know who has seen this movie or even knows about it.

None of the YouTube channels that I follow reviewed this movie, sadly.

It sneaked under the radar and it went unnoticed.

I think I learned of it because I possibly saw the trailer for it in a movie theater / cinema.

Or YouTube recommended it to me.

I think it went on slightly longer than it should have, but not enough to ruin the movie.

There are a few things that I did not like about this movie.

But overall it was a rare / unique black film that more people, especially black people, should see.

Instead of the usual overly stereotypical stuff.

It is less common to see a more well off & highly educated black family in cinema.

Especially as the main characters.

I also like how it was not all sunshine & roses.

They all had their own flaws, and issues as a family.

They also could be somewhat stereotypical at times.

So this movie was not trying to present them as perfect or anything.

There was some social commentary in there as well.

Some of which was presented in a comedic way.

I would rate this movie maybe a 3.5 – 4 out of 5.

Just saw the reboot of The Naked Gun featuring Liam Neeson. It's been a long time since I was tempted to see a comedy in theaters till now.

The runtime is so packed with rapid-fire gags that many land pretty well, especially in the first half. I'm sure I missed some. Plenty of smiles and laughs. It was worth it.

The 2024 American psychological horror drama movie I Saw The TV Glow.

I Saw The TV Glow | Official Trailer HD | A24:

I SAW THE TV GLOW is Weird but Beautiful | Movie Review:

My Thoughts

When I saw the trailer for this movie, I knew that I wanted to see it.

Based on the trailer.

I felt that it was either going to be good or bad, or a movie that would be more niche.

It is a movie that I can understand some people not liking because of it being more niche.

I knew that nostalgia was going to probably be what I like most about this movie.

The look, mood, setting, et cetera seemed to be based on the 1990s, which I have some nostalgia for.

This movie captures that pretty well.

Especially the fictional TV show, that felt like a real TV show from that era, I miss those.

The visuals, the pacing, the surrealism, the weirdness, the social interactions, et cetera worked well & were relatable.

This movie has flaws, but it has the potential to be a subtle cult classic.

A movie that those of us from the 1980s & 1990s can watch from time to time.

It brought up some struggles of childhood, adulthood, and life in general.

This is a unique and creative nod to a time now lost.

I miss those days.

I thank this movie for bringing back some of that, along with the difficulties of the present.

Another thing I like is how the main characters are outsiders, which I could relate to.

I also like that the main character was different from most movies, possibly autistic.

I recommend watching this movie and would rate it a 4 out of 5.
