What movie are you watching or planning to watch?

What is it?

The 2012 drama-thriller movie Cosmopolis.

Film Review: ‘Cosmopolis’:

My Thoughts

Every single video review of this movie that I saw on YouTube so far was negative.

Every reviewer I saw did not like or understand this movie. Most of them felt that it was pretentious and pointless.

They thought it was slow and boring. It did not make sense to them at all.

I seem to be one of the few people who did not hate this movie.

However, I did not like the character Elise Packer (Elise Shifrin) and how that character was acted.

I seem to be one of the few people who could somewhat understand this movie.

I probably somewhat liked this movie. I thought that this movie was different / unique and philosophical. I was able to relate to it.

Furthermore, I understood the movie more than any of the critics I have seen so far.

I watched this movie a few years ago alone at night. I was in a philosophical and thinking mood.

Likewise, I was at a certain point in my life when this movie felt relevant at the time. Maybe that made a difference.

Perhaps this movie is better watched under those conditions.

I was probably able to relate to this movie more because I think a lot.

When I am alone, I sometimes think out-loud, especially at night. This is when I often do my best, deepest, and most philosophical thinking.

The flow and dialogue of this movie is somewhat like that.

This movie and its dialogue between characters are like listening to people thinking out-loud to each other.

They discuss various topics in a deeply philosophical manner. This approach is uncommon in most movies or real life.

Example:

Theory Scene | COSMOPOLIS (2012) Movie CLIP HD:

Cosmopolis – A Protest Against the Future:

This movie will probably be harder to relate to and understand for some people. This is especially true if you do not like philosophy.

It will also be difficult for you if you do not engage in a lot of thinking. This is especially true for deeper thought on various topics.

The dialogue can get confusing, complex, and random at times. It flows like people thinking philosophical thoughts out loud.

Even I could not make much sense of some of it. That is how things are in real life with our thoughts.

Sometimes our thoughts make sense, and sometimes they do not.

They can flow randomly and fast at times, like some of the dialogue in this movie.

The main character Eric Packer (played by Robert Pattinson), who has bodyguards, is basically slowly going through the city.

He has philosophical conversations with various people. He meets them on his way to get a haircut.

Of course, there is more that happens. This will probably bore some people.

If you are in the mood for something like this, you can consider watching this movie at least once.

Here is one of the songs that was featured in this movie:

Cosmopolis (2012) – Mecca (Soundtrack OST):

I had not heard of it -- on IMDB overall it has metascore 58 but many critics are giving it 80s & even one 100 & Rotten Tomatoes 67%. It seems to be available on Starz and Prime. I'll check it out, even though no one has ever accused me thinking ;)

Hello @simmerskool, it is definitely divisive and a non-traditional type film, pretentious in a way, probably.

I probably did not hate it because I watched it under very particular circumstances when I was in the mood for a movie like this, and I watched it alone in the dark on an evening and / or night.

You probably will not like it, you have been warned, but who knows; I might not even like it if I were to watch it again now, who knows. ;)

If you are considering watching it or Saint Maud or The Artifice Girl, I would recommend Saint Maud and The Artifice Girl over it. ;)

Saint Maud, or Harold and Maude? :) IMO, a cult classic for sure ;) :)

I just saw Mission Impossible THE Final Reckoning on IMAX -- I think this review is accurate: "...is too messy, too awkward, too clumsy. It somehow feels overlong and inert even as it never slows down." Slashfilm (metascore 50). I forgot one of the best parts: (spoiler alert) Tom scuba dives and his mask has internal lights so you can always see his face and the mask never fogs up. Hilarious (to me) or pathetic.
I'll admit that it certainly wasn't as good as the previous installments. In some respects, it seemed to aim for a more sentimental and nostalgic experience at the expense of some of the series' old charms. Dead Reckoning was more memorable. Nowadays I try to be easy-going if I do watch a movie, especially if the budget and grandeur can help compensate for common flaws in newer movies.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try to remember to watch that one day. ;)
It's a strange movie, but a classic in that regard. Along the line of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which needed to be seen in the theater at the 12:00PM showing sitting towards the front ;) :) My friends knew what they were doing when they brought me there to see it, but that was back in the late 70s :)

Cool! So you got to see it back in theaters, nice. I have not seen either movie, but I did see a few clips from The Rocky Horror Picture Show over the years. So that is another movie that I need to watch one day.

Recently I finished both seasons of Severance and Outer Range, yesterday I finished Sweet Pea Season 1 & Lazarus Season 1, I am caught up with To Be Hero X Season 1 and Murderbot Season 1, and I started the movie Thunderbolts.

What is it?

The 2012 anime (animated) television show From The New World (新世界より) is based on the book From The New World. The book was written by Yusuke Kishi.

From The New World Trailer:

Shinsekai Yori (From The New World) | GR Anime Review:

My Thoughts

I was not a fan of the first few episodes, but the show picks up after that.

Most episodes after that end in cliffhangers that make you want to keep watching.

Unfortunately, this show jumps around in time. Sometimes, it leaves gaps, plot holes, and super unexplained details.

These issues leave you lost. You just have to accept whatever few things were said about certain things.

The very end was weak and rushed and disappointing to me.

Even with those flaws affecting the show’s potential, it still managed to surprise me.

The character Squealer (Yakomaru) was a standout for me. He is now among my favorite characters in a certain category.

I can not name the category to avoid spoilers.

This show was surprisingly multifaceted. It touched on religious, paranormal, supernatural, natural, political, cultural, social, and philosophical themes.

Some parts of the animation style do not look like they fit these themes.

The thing that I do like about this end of this show is that it hits you like a brick.

It leaves you thinking about the entire thing and you see certain things in a new light.

I wish I could say more, but that would spoil things.

What I can say, is that it made me see the villain(s) et cetera differently.

That, a certain speech at the end, and the feelings that I felt have stuck with me.

These feelings have stayed with me until this day when this TV show comes to my mind.

What Is It?

The 2025 anime TV show Lazarus Season 1.

Lazarus | Official Trailer | Adult Swim Europe:

Opening Sequence Feat. “VORTEX” By Kamasi Washington | Lazarus | Adult Swim:

Lazarus | S1E1: Goodbye Cruel World (Full Episode) | Adult Swim:

My Thoughts

My brother GC and I had higher hopes for this anime TV show.

When we first saw a teaser for it, we wondered when it would come out.

Things went quiet and took longer than expected, but it finally aired this year.

Unfortunately, we were both disappointed with this show.

Which is confusing and even more disappointing when you considered some of the greats who worked on this.

This anime had moments of being good or almost good.

But, it was an uneven mash of elements from other shows, movies, and more.

This show lacked the soul of the various shows / movies / et cetera that it reminded us of.

This show somehow felt incomplete, empty, messy, lacking, et cetera.

You are better off watching Cowboy Bebop (the anime, not the live action abomination), Outlaw Star, et cetera.

We were disappointed with this anime.

It is not bad, but we had higher hopes for it.

The voice acting and / or dialogue and / or timing of it was something that was bad at times.

The ending felt rushed & slow at the same time, and fell flat & empty & mostly pointless.

There was also barely any music or any impactful music in that last episode.

The opening credits and the ending credits were better than the show, in my opinion.

The ending credits reminded me of the anime TV show Paranoia Agent:

Lazarus End Credits | Adult Swim:

I am not sure who to blame for this one, but I assume Sola Digital Arts is to blame mostly.

Pretty much every anime that I have seen them involved with has been disappointing.

They seem to add some soullessness, sloppiness, incompleteness, et cetera to everything they touch.

Sola seems to be a plague on anime.

I would rate this show a 2 – 3 out of 5.

Which is sad, because my brother GC & I wanted to like this show.

This show should end here, it does not deserve another season, in my opinion, good riddance.

It's a shame it didn't live up to its potential. I like the aesthetic at first glance, which certainly evokes Cowboy Bebop as you mentioned. I'm not really an anime watcher like I once was, but I was tickled to discover recently that Bonobo made significant contributions to the show's soundtrack: OUT NOW: Kamasi Washington, Bonobo and Floating Points Full-Length Lazarus Soundtracks - Milan Records

Thank you for sharing @Miravi, yeah, you can see bits & pieces of inspiration from various anime like that in it, but it almost never reaches its potential.

The music was better than the show itself.

I blame the plague known as Sola Digital Arts.

They also messed up Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex, one of my favorite anime TV shows of all-time, with their Americanized Netflix version(s) called Ghost In The Shell: SAC_2045.

Just stick with the original Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex, the even better Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig, the TV movie Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society, and the Ghost In The Shell anime movies & even Ghost In The Shell: Arise.
