Hello @Jonny Quest,

My brother GC and I are the only people I know in real life to have not only seen it, but to have ever heard of it.

We watched it during the COVID-19 lockdown, which was a great time to watch a movie like this, and it impressed both of us by being good like the trailer for a low budget film.

Sadly, it seems almost no one saw it or heard of it, the downside of being released during the lockdown, I guess.

I think that they should re-release it and have it in movie theaters, and then on Netflix, et cetera.

So people can see it.

It was good to see Imogen Poots in a movie again.

I need to watch this movie again one day to see if I still like it as much as the first time.

If you do watch it eventually, feel free to share your thoughts.

Hi, goodjohnjr :)

I just got done watching it, and my summation....bizarre o_O I did skip a bit in the middle where it was like Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, minus the chuckles :)
The original relator, very creepy, Gary Oldman came to mind of another one who would have played that role as well (think of him in Leon: The Professional). He, Jesse, did the first thing I thought of too, climbing onto the roof of the house to...well, I don't want to spoil it for others. Imogen Potts did an amazing job especially as their situation progressed. For me in that situation, I would have gone nuts. One time viewing will be enough for me :)

This song is the movie soundtrack, care of The Beatles - Revolution 9, is a bit bizarre as well. I queued it up at a telling point ;)

Hello, @Jonny Quest, wow, that was fast! :)

Thank you for being one of the few people to have seen this movie and shared your thoughts about it.

I agree, definitely bizarre, and it leaves a feeling with you that lingers a bit.

I also think that Gary Oldman could have pulled that creepiness off as well.

Yeah, Imogen Poots was a standout in that movie to me.

That would be a messed up situation to be in, but I think that I would have handled it better than some people.

Especially with a wife like that, I think that we would have supported each other well enough, to at least have some joy here & there.

That song by The Beatles is definitely weird, the strangest that I have heard by them, thank you for sharing that.

You bring up a good point, if I were going to live in the isolation of a spaceship with Jennifer Lawrence, I think I would be happy, too :)

I watched Vivarium. Yes bizarre, or now for something totally different. Sort of metaphor of life...? from a writer / thinker not in his happy place  I gave it a 7/10 at IMDB, but I'm "easy"

What are a couple of your favorite movies?

@goodjohnjr what are a couple of your favorite movies?

No worries, no rating, or judging what you say.

A couple of mine, Serenity, The Hunt For Red October, Goodfellas, and Michael Clayton.

Hello @Jonny Quest, that is a good question.

I struggle with things like this.

Thank you for sharing some of your favorite movies.

Out of your list, I have only seen Serenity and Michael Clayton.

I can say for sure that Inception is one of them, I do not even have to think about that one.

Since that is possibly my favorite movie since 2010.

Other possibilities include:

Grave Of The Fireflies - This movie scarred me for life, after watching it back in college, my reaction was: "This is the best movie that I never want to see again.". I tried to watch it again a year or two ago, but I started crying during the first scene & I stopped. I cried watching the anniversary trailer for this movie, and I cried telling my mom about it.

The Fall (2006) - I saw this movie a year or two ago, it was a pleasant artistic & cinematic & even emotional experience, I wish that I would have known about it back when it came out.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind - I saw this movie in maybe the 2010s, it is Jim Carrey like you have not seen him before, his best non-comedy role that I have seen so far. This is a unique movie that I think couples would enjoy even more than I did.

A Patch Of Blue - I had the fortune of seeing this on TV randomly back when I was still in public school, I related to it & liked it so much, that I bought it on VHS back then.

Gladiator - This the first movie that I ever saw on DVD & on a big screen possibly plasma TV, it was amazing seeing the quality difference between DVD & VHS. The visuals, music, dialogue, costumes, et cetera were great in this movie.

The Thirteenth Floor - I saw this movie a couple of years ago after the DVD cover kept catching my attention at work at the library. I was blown away, and shocked that I had never heard of it. I have no idea how this one slipped under the radar.

Amélie - Besides a few sex scenes, this could have been a family movie, I wish that they would remove those scenes. Other than that, this is another film that I related to & liked & has a positive magic to it. Audrey Tautou was perfect in this role.

Blade - I did not see this movie until several years after it had come out, thanks to one of my school friends. This franchise is a guilty pleasure of mine, we watched all the Blade movies in movie theaters after this one.

Underworld - This is another guilty pleasure franchise that was introduced to me by that same school friend. We watched all the Underworld movies in movie theaters after this one.

The Shining - I only saw clips of this when I was a kid, it was not until maybe the late 2010s that I finally saw this horror masterpiece. The visuals, the colors, blew me away with how well they held up.

Rear Window (1954) - I saw this movie once in the late 2010s, Grace Kelly was amazing, her kissing scene was my favorite in movie history. I was impressed with the mystery et cetera in a small area.

Princess Mononoke - Back when Cartoon Network was showing various Studio Ghibli movies, this was possibly the favorite one of most of my brothers & I.

Saint Maud - This one may or may not deserve to be here, but I saw this movie about two years ago & it was one of the best movies that I saw that year. I would have to see it again to see if I still feel that way, I have a feeling that I will not like it as much the second time.

Predestination - I saw this movie either earlier this year or the end of last year, finally, it kept my attention & had a twist, several twists.

The Science Of Sleep - This movie is a bilingual film with French, English, and a bit of Spanish. It is a unique, quirky, somewhat romance, with dreams.

The Cell (2000) - The only reason that this movie is on this list is because it disturbed me so much when I saw it at my cousin's house back in my public school days. It was a surreal, creepy psychological horror movie. We watched it two times.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG – Individual Eleven - This is basically the second season of Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig stripped down into a movie. That season is one of my favorite anime TV shows of all-time.

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie - This is a movie for my other favorite anime TV show of all-time, Cowboy Bebop, it is not as good as the best episodes of the show. It is more like a somewhat above average episode of the show in a movie form, but it still has some classic moments of music & visuals & action & quotes / good voice acting.

Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb - I watched this back in college in an American History class, some of the scenes are classic, and it shows some of the reality of our world in comedic form.

Casablanca - I saw this only once, it truly is a classic with the visuals, music, and acting.

Alien - A science fiction classic and my favorite of the Alien films.

Welcome To Hoxford: The Fan Film - A short film so good that it should have been turned into a movie, it is a shame that my brother GC & I are the only people I know in the world who saw this short film.

Untamed - A dialogue-less short film where the music & visuals tell the story, it made me cry or tear up.

I know that I missed some, like more short films, but these are some of the ones that came to mind.

Thank you, @simmerskool for inspiring me to add a few movies that I wanted to add previously, but that I had left out.

Inception, of course :) Also from your list of the movies I know of and are favorites, Rear Window, Dr Strangelove and Gladiator. Thank you for the links you included, so I can find my next movie to watch from your list :)

Here are some of my other favorites:

Tombstone - mainly for Val Kilmer's performance.
Blade Runner.
The Princess Bride.
Sunset Boulevard. Some of the back story is pretty amazing.
Amadeus - especially for the sound track.
The Accountant.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
Jeremiah Johnson.
Hidden Figures.
Uncle Buck.
October Sky.
Alien - just the original, for how intense that first release movie was. It's one of those movies I remember where I was at the first time I saw it.

yeah I agree with your list(s) but I like Aliens (2d Alien) and Alien Resurrection too -- I like Winona Ryder and the backhand basketball shot, and diverse characters in Resurrection. Did not see Casablanca on either list, one of my favs.

I went out for a rare IMAX viewing of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the Mission: Impossible series, and Dead Reckoning Part 1 lived up to the name a couple years back. This one was amply thrilling and entertaining, a satisfying enough send off for Tom Cruise.

Hello @Jonny Quest, you are welcome, and thank you for sharing your extended list. :)

I possibly have seen some of Tombstone, but I could be wrong.

I did see Blade Runner, a science fiction classic that I almost added to my list, and I saw Blade Runner 2049, the animated short films (which are on YouTube, I think), and the anime TV show Blade Runner: Black Lotus (the worst thing in the franchise, CGI slop, with a few things to like, and so bad that it is funny at times.)

I saw The Princess Bride as a kid, but I can not remember most of it or how I felt about it.

I need to see Sunset Boulevard, Amadeus, and The Accountant (I saw The Accountant 2 in movie theaters this month, and I liked it).

I forgot to add the anime OVA movie Angel's Egg, which is sadly lost media, that possibly never made it to DVD or Blu-ray or streaming.

Mamoru Oshii’s ‘Angel’s Egg’ | Teaser:

It is either the shortest or next to shortest anime movie that I have ever seen.

Sometimes you can find it on YouTube or The Internet Archive & unofficial streaming websites, but it is a constant battle of them getting removed.

Even reviews of it are getting removed from YouTube et cetera, if they used any video clips of it, there are still some reviews available, but some of the best are gone.

It is like someone / some group is trying to erase this movie / work of art from existence.

It is basically the most art house anime that I have ever seen that has almost no dialogue.

I consider it a piece of surrealist art with religious, conscious, subconscious, et cetera allegory along with things that the maker of it was struggling with.

It connected with me with what I was dealing with in my life at that time, the crashing of my worldview / religious beliefs.

I even made a crazy person interpretation of it one depressed evening after helping my grandfather.

It was one of those rare moments when a burst a creativity comes to you.

Many years later I found part of it, and I added it to my blog.

If you can find it online somewhere, I definitely recommend watching it for something different, and see what your interpretation it.

What Is It?

The 1985 Japanese OVA (original video animation) movie Angel’s Egg (Japanese: 天使のたまご, Hepburn: Tenshi No Tamago).

Mamoru Oshii's 'Angel's Egg' | Teaser:

What do I like about it, and what would other people like about it?

I like the animation.

I like the atmosphere and the music.

Likewise, I appreciate the symbolism and the surrealism.

I think that other people will like them as well.

My Thoughts

This is essentially a work of art.

It is best viewed when you are in the mood for introspection.

You have to decide what it means to you as you try to decode the symbolism.

I watched this years ago when I was in a depressive mood.

It was a somewhat profound experience.

My depressed mind connected with and decoded what some symbolism meant to me.

I even made my own personal interpretation of it during that time.

Eventually, I found it again, and I created a blog post about it called: Angel’s Egg (John Jr’s Personal Interpretation).

I consider this a surrealist film, and it possibly the second-shortest anime movie that I have ever seen.

This is a classic work of art that I think deserves to be preserved and seen by everyone at least once.

For what it is, I would rate it a 4.5 - 5 out of 5.
