Advice Request Which AV was the first one you installed ?

AVG and Avast 4.5 (I tried them simultaneously). Then I switched to Windows defender when it became an antispyware + antivirus. The reason was to reduce installed 3rd party software in my PC.

The first one I ever worked with was Norton back in 2006 on my family PC
Then After I got my own i worked with Avast 4.8 first, then to Avira

Pretty sure it was McAfee in the late 90s early 2000s. At some point my dad switched us to Norton.

I had the first AV program in the eighties. Virus signatures were updated weekly using 3.5 inch floppy disks.

I first used Avira and comodo-fw on xp-sp3. At that time, it was known as the strongest combination that could be used for free on Japanese bulletin boards.

Everyone has a time when they are tempted by the allure of the word "strongest.

My first one was F-prot on Windows3.11 as on demand scanner.
With real-time protection it was Eset Nod 32 v.2.7. Lightest I've used so far.
After that for a while, just testing: Norton, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Trend Micro, Emsisoft, F-Secure, AVG, Avast...
For longer perioods I was without real-time AV protection, using just Sandboxie and HIPS/FWs.

My first antivirus was Avira Free. Because it's free for home users like me and very popular back then. I remembered how the Avira's acoustic sound embarrassed some of my friends because their USB stick was infected by shortcut virus like ramnit.

My first was Avira Free, I used that until I got sick of that big pop up that popped up before updating. Then I went to Free Avg, I then found there was a fix for that pop up and went back to Avira. Back then it was Windows XP.

So far I remember, it was Kaspersky 3.5, after a lot of different antimalwares, I was a couple of years with Emsisoft when they switched to bit-defender, now with bit-defender, f-secure and eset.

AVG until i got a virus and immediately changed to avast but I didn't like their warning sound for updates and protection and switched to Nod32. Good ol' times.

This is a bit off topic, but I think the warning sound of the first AV software you use will stay in a special place in your brain.

The only warning sound I’ve ever heard from any AV other than WD is Avast. I’m a careful surfer.
