Advice Request Which should you run first: SFC Scannow or DISM?

I see varying opinions on this in articles online.

They seem to agree in following one with the other. Some articles suggest running System File Check three times.

This is an interesting question. I run the sfc /scannow alone about 99% of the time when checking for system file corruption.

If that comes up with corrupted files/able or unable to fix, then I run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. Then I run sfc again and almost always, it's clean afterward.

I don't think an sfc scan showing file corruption has ever led to a complete Windows reinstallation on here. It's generally been hardware-involved issues instead, like bluescreens of death (BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO) or a corrupted partition. Which reminds me, I better update my static image.

What do you all do?

I run SFC first, similar to the reasoning @plat1098 gave. However sfc is much easier to type for me, and so because I'm lazy I'll also just run sfc first.

DISM first then SFC, sometimes SFC is unable to repair files if you haven't run DISM previously

DISM first because if sfc found a error, it mostly stop while running DISM first solve or help at least.

Sfc shouldn't be needed nowadays as Windows do that itself anyway.

DISM first, then SFC. SFC relies on data that DISM is verifying.

In my experience, sfc first. But if the Windows installation is deeply corrupted i prefer to do a fresh install. Sometimes you lost time trying to repair it.

Other times, Windows Repair (from tweaking.com) does the job.
