I have a laptop with 4GB RAM, Pentium Dual Core 2.43 GhZ, 750 GB HDD. Which (free) VM's do you recommend ? And sorry for OT, is Camtasia Studio good for recording ?

Virtualization has been around for a long time now.
It comes in many forms.

Windows 8.1 has Hyper-v built in for example.
windows 7 you can download Virtual PC 2007 SP1

VirtualBox, Vmware Player and workstation and server etc. Citrix
Some are better at running Unix VMs than other etc.
Depends what OS you are running and what VMs you want to run.
Camtasia Studio is excellent, its a full blown editor.

VMware to me, serves me very well.
Reason I really, really disliked the epoch in VirtualBox I used (4 months ago), maybe one day I try again.
I guarantee one thing: both are excellent, worth testing each one.
What do you like most and adapt the way you use it, you choose.

The only thing I hate about VirtualBox that it doesn't support (or for me) I haven't got any luck getting the copy-paste or drag 'n drop working (copying files from host to guest). I know about shared folders but I hate this way so that's why I ended up using VMware.
About recording I don't recommend you at all Camtasia Studio as for low-end PCs it will drag it into the floor when recording. I prefer and recommend Debut Video Capture Software (NCH Software) its free for non-commercial use. and my best one is BB Flashback Pro (paid) from tons of screen capture software I used I always loved BB Flashback Pro also it got an editor to add notes etc...

VMware workstation. Multiple snapshots. I have 2-3 OS on there and multiple snap shots of different security software for testing and beta.

Same here, I can't get it to work either. Instead I either download directly, or load an self-created ISO image in the Guest OS.
