And what do you expect to see? Can see whether PUP can be enable/disable?Google Win Defender on/off
Yes, there's a program to enable/disable PUP in Windows Defender or you can go into the registry to set yourselfYes, exactly...its a small program that does exactly that....
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\MpEngine]
"MpEnablePus"=dword:00000001
It's originally an Opt-in Feature for Enterprise users.I had no idea you had to manually enable PUP detection in Windows Defender, seems rather unintuitive for your average joe. Maybe it's not ready for prime time.
Some users actually like junk programs, so Windows lets them enjoy their junk, if they want to.I had no idea you had to manually enable PUP detection in Windows Defender, seems rather unintuitive for your average joe. Maybe it's not ready for prime time.
It works:PUA detection is not enabled by default in Creators Update but you can enable it via registry hack as mentioned above and then you can test it here:
Feature Settings Check – Potentially Unwanted Applications » AMTSO
WD should detect this PUA test (safe) file.
No, you have to add an entry to the registry which enable the PUP detection. Then you can download the test file.I have the Creators Update installed. I downloaded the file with no warning. but when clicked on it in downloads, a window popped up reading Windows Defender SmartScreen protected your PC. No registry hack done. But maybe I'm misunderstanding this test.![]()
Works on my side.I downloaded the registry hack from "howtogeek" and added the registry for enabling pup detection. But defender still can't detect the test file from amtso, nothing. Scanned nothing. Anyone?
