I think all these viruses (Spectre/Meltdown) might be all true, but I think they are magnified a lot worse than they actually are. The desktop computer is way down in sales and I think this might well be a ploy to force you to buy new equipment. I may be wrong but this is what it looks like to me. Let know what you think. It just seems to me they are creating all these catastrophic viruses to force you to buy a new computer because people are hanging on to their old computers because Windows 10 works on new and old. I have a older computer and it has never run better with the new Fall Windows 10 update, why would I buy a new computer?

Meltdown and Spectre aren't viruses (or malware), though. They are vulnerabilities on the hardware level that can be exploited using malware. :)

But yeah, maybe, they are overly magnified by the media. :)

But, I don't believe that Meltdown and Spectre are a result of a conspiracy so that consumers will buy new hardware. Like what @bribon77 stated, major companies (Intel and AMD) have no new chips yet which they could advertise as having no Meltdown/Spectre vulnerabilities. In fact, Intel's newly released 8th Gen has the vulnerabilities. :)
