If you are thinking of ESET on windows 8 Then you may need to know the fact that Hips of both V5 and v6 dont work on Windows 8 x64 (except that everything else works)
anyways you could install ESET Antivirus and disable its HIPS and use comodo firewall for Hips (if you have an ESET licence and don't want to waste it) or you can use Comodo internet security which is fully Windows 8 Compatible and free
you can get CIS from Here
http://forums.comodo.com/news-announcements-feedback-cis/cis-512-for-windows-8-t86289.0.html

MSE is what I recommend if you want something light. It might not be the best antivirus available but is easy to use, it wont destroy your PC and works great in Windows. I also recommend you check out Sandboxie. If you run MSE along Sandboxie, it will feel like nothing, it will be all you need and you ll be better protected than if you were using a bunch of other programs.

I'e used MSE.... Its built in win defender but at startups it uses a lot of memory - 70MB +

Ahh, okay, don't know what addons you have, but the ones that I recommend are, Lastpass, WOT, Ghostery, Ablock Plus. :)

Yes comodo is fully fledged (Antivirus + Hips + Firewall + Sandbox + Cloud)
you can use it at default settings but i would recommend that you configure it using http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-install-comodo-firewall.htm For best protection if you like hips and some alerts you wont be disappointed with Comodo after you use it
Comodo main strength is its Defence+(Hips+sandbox) which stops 99.9% of malware not its antivirus(detection rate mostly 60-80%) on 0-day malware
Thanks

So you're suggesting that I install comodo firewall.... Am I right.?? Hey loveboy, by saying comodo stops 99.9% malware, do you mean it's firewall stops them from entering via net or is it that it can stop virus spread via pen drives or files as well...??

RE: Need a good AV ...!!

Hi abhi,
You are using windows 8 so I think you have good hardware configuration.
Second point you want light av protection.

I find two av which is suitable and light for you.

Norton:Light and Very Good Protection (you can try 6 month trial for av or 3 months trial for Norton Internet Security)

Windows Defender:Its in built in windows 8 which have mse database,It is light but less secure then norton but with smartscreen on it can be good enough.

RE: Need a good AV ...!!

Comodo is basically made of 3 Components
1) Antivirus
2) Firewall
3) Defence+

If you install Only comodo antivirus you get Antivirus and Defence+
If you install only firewall you get firewall and defence+
If you install the Comodo Internet Security you get Antivirus , Firewall and Defence+

Defence+ is the most impressive component of CIS which is able to block 99.9% of malware (due to its hips , sandbox and cloud module which checks executed file in the cloud and blocks if malware or sandboxes it by default) you can configure using this guide http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-install-comodo-firewall.htm

I would recommend you to use the whole suite Comodo internet security its free and you will like it
for a basic idea on how it works you can see this Video http://malwaretips.com/Thread-Comodo-Antivirus-with-Norton-DNS-and-Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware-Test-biozfear14

This video is of version 5.10 and for windows 8 you have to install version 5.12

OK..... If I am correct, ESET is good as well...... What do you think....?? Comodo firewall is the best.... I second that but I don't think it's AV is even near 85% good.....!! So i'm thinking of a good AV solution. I'm running win firewall now but sill now the PC hasn't been infected.... It's all a matter of unwanted clicks if one wants to get infected via web, right?? So I think i'm 90% safe in this case but what I am worried about is the infection that comes via pen drives n torrent files after download.... So i'm searching for a good AV.....!! :D:shy:

May be you have old norton memorey but is now quite good;)

OK, i'll have a look into it's new improved engine.... I didn't like Norton cuz it used to miss out dangerous viruses and even if they were found, it would not be able to remove it......Btw, I tried Norton 2011 I guess n was disappointed by it....

RE: Need a good AV ...!!

If thats your case i would recommend you using ESET Nod 32 Antivirus(disable hips) along with Comodo Firewall (defence+ will protect you against anything missed by ESET)

for pen drive infection you need not worry since microsoft fixed issues and disabled autoruns way back in windows 7 and by default windows 8 has autoruns disabled as well (so no virus will be able to execute when you connect pendrive and even if it does if its missed by ESET comodo Defence+ will surely alert you for action and will sandbox or block it as well depending on what it finds when checked in cloud)

and relating to torrents if you download lots of cracks and stuff then i suppose you could check them using virustotal after download http://www.virustotal.com/ Or if you think its safe to run the execute it in comodo will sandbox sandbox it by default and if it does anything suspicious then comodo defence+ will alert you and ask for action or block it
