New Update Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview builds [Mega-Thread]

I just finished clean installation of 24H2, so far everything works great. To those who might ask why did I reinstall Windows, well... I wanted a clean refresh. Beside, whenever there's a new major Windows update, Microsoft recommend clean installation.

Out of all these bugs, the sfc /scannow bug is the worst imho.

Fixed in 2152, sort of:

1. SFC Fail
2. SFC Fail
3. SFC Successful
4. SFC Successful

Seems like a lot of outlets are posting articles and videos like this. Issues seem to happen with every update. And screaming the sky is falling about any problems people mention gets clicks.

Windows Setup causing BSOD on NVMe, inability to run setup at all, because it fails to detect disks, inability to enter safe mode, because of invalid PIN, etc. Those are not little bugs.

May I ask if Recall is part of Copilot? Because I always install English (US) ISO of Windows and when I finished (offline) installation, Copilot was present. As soon as I connected to the internet, changed my regional settings to Croatia and ran a Windows Update, Copilot was gone by itself.

I'm trying to find Recall feature without any luck.

BTW I ran onto the first problem: DISM isn't working correctly. Can't run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth at all. All it keeps saying is it can't find the sources files. Now I ran another command that will use Windows Update to fix the component store, we'll see.

Windows itself works normally except these two minor annoyances.

EDIT: Yeah, doesn't work either. Any ideas?



EDIT 2: I give up. This problem is unsolvable.



EDIT 3: IT'S FIXED! I had to go to System -> Recovery and use option to fix the installation with keeping everything using Windows Update. It downloaded entire image and installed it.

Try this:

Check Windows Update logs: Look for errors in the Windows Update logs (located in C:\Windows\Logs\WindowsUpdate\).

Disable Antivirus and Firewall Temporarily:
* Sometimes, antivirus or firewall software can interfere with DISM. Temporarily disable them and try running the command again.

Use a Different Command Prompt:
* Try running the DISM command from a different command prompt, such as the one in the Windows Recovery Environment.
Additional Tips:

* Check for network connectivity issues: If you're using a network share as the source, ensure there are no network connectivity problems.

* Try a different repair option: If RestoreHealth fails, you might try StartComponentCleanup first to clean up the component store before running RestoreHealth.

Tried all of that, nothing worked. The only thing that worked was downloading entire image from Windows Update and then installing it without losing data, files and apps. sfc /scannow still finds errors, but DISM says no error were found. It might be that sfc /scannow bug everyone talks about.

I don't want to use it. I just want to see if it's located in the OS somewhere and what's the fuss about because I don't really understand. From what I see, it's only available for ARM PCs which currently make 1% market share so I don't see any reason to panic.

If you're having problems with 24H2, and aren't able to roll back or don't have an image backup, you can try this:

I've found a way to download the Windows 11 23H2 ISO file after Microsoft releasing version 24H2, and here's how.

To download Windows 11 23H2 ISO, use UUP Dump to create a custom ISO, then use Rufus to make a bootable USB installer.

Microsoft might be about to temporarily halt the rollout of its latest operating system update, Windows 11 24H2, for some users after reports of Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors emerged. The issue appears to be linked to specific Western Digital SSDs and their interaction with the updated storage drivers in 24H2. The Windows 11 24H2 update includes new File Explorer features, an updated Copilot experience, Wi-Fi 7 support, expanded availability for Voice Clarity audio, and much more.

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27729 to the Canary Channel. We are also not planning to release SDKs for 27xxx series builds for the time being.

Changes and Improvements​

[Settings]​

• We are adding the ability to configure the Copilot key. You can choose to have the Copilot key launch an app that is MSIX packaged and signed, thus indicating the app meets security and privacy requirements to keep customers safe. The key will continue to launch Copilot on devices that have the Copilot app installed until a customer selects a different experience. This setting can be found via Settings > Personalization > Text input. If the keyboard connected to your PC does not have a Copilot key, adjusting this setting will not do anything. We are planning further refinements to this experience in a future flight.

[General]​

• We fixed an underlying issue causing some games, including Microsoft Solitaire & Casual Games, to crash on launch after installing Build 27718+.

[Windowing]​

• Fixed an underlying issue which could cause the screen to go black for a few seconds for some people when using ALT + Tab.

[Other]​

• We fixed an issue causing BitLocker to not work correctly for a small number of Insiders in the last 2 flights.

Known issues​

[General]​

• [IMPORTANT NOTE FOR COPILOT+ PCs] If you are joining the Canary Channel on a new Copilot+ PC from the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel or retail, you will lose Windows Hello pin and biometrics to sign into your PC with error 0xd0000225 and error message “Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available”. You should be able to re-create your PIN by clicking “Set up my PIN”.
• We’re investigating reports that some Insiders are still experiencing rollbacks (with error code 0xc190010) when attempting to install the latest Canary builds.
• [UPDATED] Some Insiders with PCs that have older NVIDIA GPUs (like the GTX 970, Quadro K620, etc.) are experiencing some issues where their displays appear stuck at a black screen and unresponsive or seeing their GPUs showing errors in Device Manager and not working correctly. We are aware of the issue and working on a fix. If you are impacted by this issue and unable to use your PC, you can boot into Windows Recovery (WinRE), roll back to the previous build, and pause updates in Windows Update to wait for a new build with the fix for this issue. If you paused updates with Build 27723 last week you will need to un-pause and re-pause updates to not take Build 27729 to remain on Build 27718 for right now.
• [NEW] We’re working on the fix for an issue causing some Insiders to see a bugcheck with error PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA starting in Build 27723.

[Input]​

• We’re working on the fix for an underlying issue causing the Emoji Panel and Clipboard History to not open in certain surfaces anymore, including in Registry Editor.

Snipping Tool Update​

We are rolling out an update for Snipping Tool (version 11.2409.23.0 and newer) to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels that introduces a new “Copy as table” feature. [caption id="attachment_177355" align="alignnone" width="556"] Snipping Tool showing copy as table option with text pasted into Microsoft Excel.[/caption] Customers can do even more with Snipping Tool! Alongside existing text features, like copying text from an image and redacting sensitive information, we’re adding a new option for “Copy as table”. Customers can use “Copy as table” to easily copy structured table data into an email, document, or spreadsheet. To get started, capture a screenshot with table data, select “Text actions,” and select “Copy as table.” You can paste the structured table data from there! Please note: the current implementation of the feature works best when your screenshot only includes one table. FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Apps > Snipping Tool.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel​

• The builds we release to the Canary Channel represent the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windowsand features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.

• Many features in the Canary Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.

• Some features may show up in the Dev and Beta Channels first before showing up in the Canary Channel.

• Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
• To get off the Canary Channel, a clean install of Windows 11 will be required. As a reminder - Insiders can’t switch to a channel that is receiving builds with lower build numbers without doing a clean installation of Windows 11 due to technical setup requirements.

• The desktop watermark shown at the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for these pre-release builds.

[Snap]​

• We’re trying out a behind-the-scenes change to improve what apps are suggested for snapping in snap layouts. Try out snapping different apps and let us know if you see improvements in what apps you see suggested.

[Narrator]​

• We have added a new shortcut “Narrator key + control + X" to copy what Narrator last spoke to clipboard. It follows the pattern of using "Narrator key + X" which repeats the last spoken phrase out loud and is a good way to memorize similar shortcuts. You can use these shortcuts to review and copy what Narrator spoke, useful in cases you want to quickly copy some content or descriptions or codes/numbers for use.
• Narrator will now auto-read contents of a mail in the new Outlook app similar to behavior in Outlook classic.

Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*​

• Did some work so the search box in File Explorer shouldn’t draw off the end of the window anymore.

[Narrator]​

• We have addressed a performance issue where Narrator would slow down after 15 minutes of continuous use with a single application. If you continue to experience any performance delays, do report using Feedback Hub.
• Fixed an issue where Narrator would add an additional announcement "contains style" whenever its focus is on text that has styling attributes such as bullets, numbers across applications such as Microsoft Edge, Teams, Outlook, etc.
• Fixed an issue where few dialogs in Narrator were not adopting the 200% text scaling setting in Windows.

[Input]​

• We’re beginning to roll out a new Gamepad keyboard layout for the on-screen keyboard in Windows 11 that supports the ability to use your Xbox controller to navigate and type. This includes button accelerators (example: X button for backspace, Y button for spacebar) additionally the keyboard keys have been vertically aligned for better controller navigation patterns.

• If you use the netsh wlan show networks command, you should be able to read SSIDs that are UTF-8 encoded. This means that Wi-Fi SSIDs with Unicode characters (like emojis) should be properly displayed in netsh output. This change is beginning to roll out so not all Insiders in the Canary Channel will see it right away.

Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*​

[General]​

• Fixed an issue for a small number of Insiders after the latest builds, where on locking your PC, after waking the PC from sleep the login screen contents wouldn’t load and you couldn’t sign back in.

[Input]​

• Fixed an underlying issue which could lead to clipboard history not displaying items you’d copied.

[Taskbar]​

• Fixed an issue where if you had multiple windows open for an app on your taskbar, pressing WIN + multiple times wasn’t cycling between the windows, for example, pressing WIN + 1.

[Narrator]​

• Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel receive updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2 via an enablement package (Build 26120.xxxx).
• Updates delivered to the Dev Channe are in a format that offers a preview of enhancements to servicing technology on Windows 11, version 24H2. To learn more, see Introducing Windows 11 checkpoint cumulative updates.
• Many features in the Dev Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
