It is possible to remove ads from the GUI by disabling Norton 360(C:\Program Files\Norton\Suite\NortonUI.exe) networking, which will not cause Norton updates and cloud connections to fail, but networking must first be restored to NortonUI.exe when switching accounts or entering new serial numbers.
The best option is to switch to another better AV.
avast/norton knew what they were doing and they will pay for it when they lose a userbase. The previous customers had a clean GUI with no nags and people have been complaining to norton about the ADs. hopefully they will do the right thing and rid them as they made a serious mistake which will cost them the $$ if they are not careful.

At least they shouldn't show advertising content to paying users, I used to be a Kaspersky (KIS) user and because it pop-up ads for the password manager I didn't renew my license.
Paid users of Avast and Norton should do the same and protest against the ads in the GUI.

Make no mistake about it. Norton continuously gets worse after every update. They just made it so they can scan the email connected to your account and display a big message about compromised accounts, fully advertising identity protection with no way to turn it off.

This being with out your “consent” Norton is now known as the paid antivirus product that introduces advertisements with in products to products.
