.Sam.

Level 1
Hey, I'm looking for an antivirus which is good protection + no lag in gaming or slowdown, I've tried most of the products, eg. Kaspersky Pure, norton 360, bitdefender total security , Avast 7 Internet security and Eset Smart security 5.

i came up some conclusions:
Kaspersky Pure= Lag + Slow loading + slow web page load
norton 360=Internet lag+slow web page load
bitdefender total security=slow web page load
Avast 7 Internet security=little slow on web page load
Eset Smart security 5= no lag at all but problems in firewall

I didn't try any other products, if you could recommend me a better one I'll for sure use it.

I don't understand why people say Kaspersky doesn't lag at all, while I feel Tonnes of lag

So my viewpoint shrieked to:
Avast 7 Internet security vs Eset Smart security 5 or (6 beta)

Which one's better? or any other better ones?

What I want is: I game a lot , so I have to make sure there's no lag at all.

Thanks.

PC specs:
AMD Phenom II x3 720
6GB RAM
HD 6850 1GB VRAM
Windows 7 ultimate x64
500GB HDD Free space around 100GB

If you want real fast machine go with mse+windows firewall.
From option you given i will chose eset 5 if i have license.
I dont know about your machine but kaspesky pure is way light then any other Internet security Suite on my machine.

Welcome to MalwareTips. :D

It's recommended not to use any Beta software, as they may be riddled with bugs and cause more problems.

From the choices you've provided, I would say try ESET, but NOD32 Antivirus instead of ESS.

Windows 7 Firewall is good enough with a hardware firewall (router). Long gone are the days of using a third-party Firewall, unless you're using Windows XP or want finer granular control of what's incoming and outgoing. But like I said before Windows 7 Firewall is superior to that of Windows XP, also you could try and configure the firewall using Windows Firewall with Advanced Security (search from Start Menu).

So try ESET Nod32 Antivirus 5 and report back.

CIS is very light on system and has a game mode, i don't know the OP computer level, but if he can handle CIS it will be a good choice.

i used CIS on a not so powerful machine while playing at WOW, i hadn't got any visible slowdown

There is also Panda Cloud AV, which is also free and very light.

I play Battlefield 3 , MW3, maybe GTA5 soon.

The thing I didn't choose MSE because of their horrible detection , but maybe that was last time.

Maybe I should try Eset Nod32, since ESS has problems in firewall

Thanks again!

I wouldn't touch MSE as it has a terrible detection rate... Im still confused on why its still being recommended, I understand its "User Friendly" But still, I wouldn't recommend it at all.

So out of these Choices I would try NOD32.
I'm a Avast and a Kaspersky guy but NOD32 would be your best bet since you experienced some slowdowns with AIS and No problems with NOD32 but with its firewall so give NOD32 a shot.

Okay I'll try NOD 32, Thanks!

I would install games on a separate partition (not on the Windows partition, usually the C: drive) and make a habit of creating disk images of my C: drive using a Disk imaging software as Paragon Backup & Recovery 2012 Free (my current choice, but there are other options as well). The reason I would install games on a separate partition is because they tend to take up many GB thus making the backup process of my windows partition considerable longer. In addition I would use a normal user account (as opposed to the default account running in admin approval mode) + a light antivirus (not a security suite).

Is Comodo IS better than eset nod32? haven't tried it but most of you uses comodo so i thought its great.

I also heard that from AV-comparatives, Kaspersky is the best protection + no lag.

im confused? :S

CIS is a very powerful FREE suite for those who knows how to use and set it, its backbone is it's powerful HIPS and Firewall, lately the AV module improved quite a lot.
For me, it is better than ESET, i tried many many suites and i always get back to CIS; but just try it then you will see.

KIS is a good one too but surely not the best to me, as i said above; try them and don't listen tests labs blindly, what is good for them may be bad for you.

Actually Comodo AV's detection rate were literally having more than 90% percentage. Since its does have aggressive heuristics thus newer samples were detected by that type.

For a gaming PC you want something that is light but also protects you and has the basics that a normal AV should have.

OK , I'm trying CIS , Is it enough protection for just CIS?
