Avast free vs Kaspersky free

So which would you choose, avast free or kaspersky free, based on level of protection & performance?

Avast free of course!!! More security features!! The Kaspersky free av without application control cannot be the same level like Kaspersky TS or IS...that's fact

There is a Kaspersky Free? I didn't know about this.. I like Avast because of its lightness, with proper tweaking it can be good as most paid AVs IMO. Though its always good to have multiple layered security. If you haven't posted a security config yet, you should do that.

Kaspersky Free

Unless you're looking for a definitions-based antivirus only to complete your setup, Kaspersky Free isn't enough to be used as a standalone, as it lacks a Behavior Blocker (called System Watcher).
If you're using Comodo Firewall (customized for auto-sandboxing) / an anti-exe / a behavior blocking program (like HMPA) already, Kaspersky Free will be a great choice to add. KSN is a powerful tool for detection of newer threats not detected by plain signatures.
Avast free covers most of the basic security layers needed and a separate Behavior Blocker is not needed to complement Avast.

kaspersky free was just recently released to many countries, it is still a staged rollout, initially was just a couple countries that could install it as a pilot program
read the kaspersky free thread linked by parsh and keep an eye out for kaspersky free tests that will hopefully be coming in the malware hub
only after we see it in action can we properly recommend it or not
we will have to gauge how well certain protections are, and then more experienced users will be able to tell where the protection is lacking
then they can recommend other free utilities to supplement with that will complement kaspersky free's protection since free version does not include a number of protection modules that are found in paid kaspersky

If you install KART first you can install KAF.

During KAF installation it will check for compatibility and warn about KART, by default it will automatically remove KART, but you can uncheck it and install KAF without removing KART.

The question is how stable it is.

Kaspersky Free. So far, rock solid stable in 24 hours on 10 of my machines and a server.

I would never put Avast on any machine. Ever.

yes we should test KAV with a few feature stripped... Did you even check what KAF is all about?

what is going to conflict tho? KAR doesn't have features KAF has, and vice-versa.

Alright! I haven't tried KART myself yet, but if there's an option to disable its File AV (the associated KSN) and just keep the SW enabled, that will be better.
Anyways, the SW from KART will not provide complete behavior blocking like the one found in the paid versions would.
