MalwareTips Community,

I have been researching long and wide on the internet to find information about bookmarking a website in the Tor Browser (I am a privacy-conscious user, deciding to use the Tor Browser for generally browsing the web). The Tor Browser website says you can import/export bookmarks in Tor. However, it doesn't say if bookmarking can make the tor browser/you finger printable. Everywhere I look, I get mixed messages. Anyone currently using the Tor Browser (or had in the past): what did you do? For anyone else, what are your thoughts on the matter?

Best practice with Tor would be to only bookmark onion sites and enter open web sites by typing manually or using DuckDuckGo or StartPage to search for sites. That way you will avoid tracking, but fingerprinting is another issue, but Tor does have anti-fingerprinting technology. If you browse a large e-commerce site or financial site, I will say they are able to fingerprint users and track them across the open web while using Tor. Most times though sites ban Tor users so either you will get endless captchas, or you will get some sort of shadow banned or highly restricted or/and then total banned very quickly.

Thank you @Zero Knowledge for your insightful information about bookmarking websites in the Tor Browser. It's nice to know the best practice for these things. I wish Tor had more detailed guidelines on their website, especially for simple features such as bookmarks.
