Hi,

I am writing in despair to remove persistent adware/malware (I think that’s what they are) from my PC laptop (Windows 10 64 Bit OS, X250 Think Pad) for past week without any success. I have tried everything advised in this forum guidelines as listed above. But still, when I open Chrome or internet explorer I get a pop up window with an advertisement (usually a video) (see attached Word File). There is a close (X) button to this screen but when I click X it opens another tab. Usually tradeadexchange.com or something similar is shown in the new tab’s address bar and then some add opens up.

This I noticed form the first week after I bought this laptop (Bought on 10th Oct 2015). However, at that time, the pop ups used to come from the right bottom corner (notification area). There used to be occasional pop-ups on the website screen. Then I had run malware bytes and Spybot and somehow the problem was sorted. Since last 10 days or so I am getting above problems. First I ignored because it used to happen with only timesofindia.com website. But soon it started with all websites. Then I tried everything google search could help me with including what you advised. Nothing Worked! Therefore, I have no way but to seek out to you for help.

I am only a basic PC user and don't even understand many of the terms that come up in your discussions, but I hope I will be able to follow the advise you give and solve this. Thank you for having this forum to help people like me.

Thank you

Sumeet

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:
  • At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
  • Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
  • Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
  • Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.
  • All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
  • If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.
  • I visit forum several times at day, making sure to respond to everyone's topic as fast as possible. But bear in mind that I have private life like everyone and I cannot be here 24/7. So please be patient with me. Also, some infections require less, and some more time to be removed completely, so bear this in mind and be patient.
  • Please stay with me until the end of all steps and procedures and I declare your system clean. Just because there is a lack of symptoms does not indicate a clean machine. If you solved your problem yourself, set aside two minutes to let me know.
  • Please attach all report using
    fjqb1h.png
button below. Doing this, you make it easier for me to analyze and fix your problem.

  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay for the repair.

Hi,

Thank you so much for replying so soon. I appreciate you taking time off during holidays.

I followed your exact instructions. The log file was created in C:/ but I could not upload it (gave error that the uploaded file is empty). It was already open in notepad and I saved it elsewhere as TXT file and then I could upload it.

I have gone through all the instructions and rules you posted; I agree.

Hi,

I guess my problem is solved!!! Thank you so much! And, I am very sorry for not being able to reply back and update you.

I never imagined that it will take me almost 2 weeks to fix problems with my ISP. I reset the router as you suggested and for some reason my internet service just stopped. No matter what I did, it wont restart even after the ISP reset my passwords. Finally, the ISP figured out that my router itself may be damaged and we replaced that. Now it works fine and for past 3 hours (at least) I have not seen any pop up adds.

So I assume that my laptop and router both are free from the malware. I am not sure if whatever-infected-us could damage the router or if it was some random but concurrent event.

Thanks again.
Best
Sumeet
