The license gets activated once you put in in the ESET product or does it stay inactive until you do so?

Once you get the license from the promo it expires 4 months from today.It comes as a Username & Password and not an activation code hence it is already activated at time of distribution.
Example from a few minutes ago "Expiry:10/05/2015" (dd.mm.yr)

Don't know? Trouble is many times when for a specific region and others use a proxy they get blacklisted especially in the UK promos.You never know though

You have to use a UK Proxy to get the Promo License
