New Update ESET v19

I currently have access to the VPN with my Smart Security Premium subscription, but won't be using it because I already have Windscribe and ESET uses them for their VPN.

You're right it's on the official site now.
I'm only interested if the VPN is unli and this cleared my doubts.
This is a terrific addition to round out the feature sets between different tiers. It makes for a more competitive offering at the price point, for sure.

Does anyone have experience with ESET's VPN? I know it comes from a partnership with Windscribe, so it must be virtually the same service.

Are there more and better options/settings with the stand alone Windscribe app, compared to the embedded version? The stand alone VPN apps usually are better in that regard. But, when it comes with a subscription, can be hard to beat.

Well, I know Windscribe has ROBERT, their ad/tracker/malware blocker in the VPN. I am not sure if ESET will have access to that. And they also have things like MAC spoofing and decoy traffic to help with your privacy. Unsure if ESET will have those too.

I think it's also a Country Regulation where usage of a VPN is illegal so companies engaging needs to follow the rules and have law abiding citizens.

AVG ultimate with VPN does not work too in other countries but once outside it works.
Not sure if the same applies to Eset.
Not illegal where I live. I still can't buy Ultimate.

Robert isn't or wasn't the easiest to access or sort if there were problems, I often thought the principle was good but the implementation was not the best?

I have windscribe lifetime .....which strangely expires in 2028....and since Eset uses them as their VPN provider then I can share my experience with windscribe.

I like it. Many servers all around the globe, no issues but I don't do anything illegal nor am I forced to surf from China. So your mileage might vary.

Deeply apologize up front that I did not read the whole thread.

The v 19 just installed on my PC and I got upgraded from Premium to Ultimate for free (for the next 2 months of my current lic). I noticed the Ransomware recovery claim. Anyone knows what changed between that and the original folder guard?

I have a Premium subscription that is good though mid Dec. I may have to install it to see what happens on my end. But the renewal price would be expensive.
Does it have a system tray right click option to enable and disable the VPN, or do you have to open the Eset app every time?

Folder Guard controls the access to the files to prevent encryption. The ransomware remediation rolls encryption back for certain file formats and sizes.

A better solution is system imaging and backup, but ransomware remediation is still nice to have.

However features like that will reduce performance in certain conditions (depending on how the backup of the original files is executed).

How could you upgrade for free ?

Yep, it does after you follow the steps provided when you tick on the VPN panel and as @TuxTalk mentioned above. Looks good, and the speeds are pretty much right on with my default ISP speeds.

I don't want to be too fickle, but ESET is instantly attracting me more with this upgrade. They must have one of the best bundled VPNs around based on what I hear about Windscribe. In my defense, a worldclass VPN does make ESET Premium seem less pricey now.

LOL...you're reading my mind. In looking at the AV app and how professional looking it is and laid out, the settings, protection, and that they intentionally support Brave, and now in looking at some of the VPN servers and options, was thinking the same thing as you ;) :)

Edit: and it's incredibly light on my laptop (resources) compared to Proton VPN.

Gotcha

Did anyone perform an independent test the rollback? I presume the answer is no since the solution is Soo new.

And yes system backup is paramount but remediation is always a part of the layered response. I think of it as an ICU when every other medical intervention failed.

When I was approaching the last two months of my Premium subscription, I was also offered a free upgrade to Ultimate for the remainder. I didn't have autorenewal going, but I assume they wanted to keep me on Ultimate.
This is a good customer service from Eset. Doing whatever it can to retain and please it's users and also showcasing the next tier.
