Save the applause, I don't have the shelf space.

MT would survive just fine without me, it’d just run a few degrees hotter and leak a little more data. I'm not looking for a statue. I'm just the guy tightening the lug nuts while everyone else argues about the paint job.
So one of the biggest achievements of MT community is the birth of the two guys: one stating only facts and the other tightening the lug nuts.

Anyway, I have been here for years and I definitely have seen worse.

Seen worse" is the logic of an admin staring at a slow memory leak and saying, "Well, at least it hasn't kernel panicked yet." That's not stability, that's just a long decline.

If you weren't around for the source code, don't lecture me on the binary. The early years were about engineering, now we're just arguing over which shade of beige the interface should be. Measuring quality by "it's not on fire right now" is exactly why standards slide.

Personally, my objective is not robust security. My objective is the sweet spot between security and usability. I did not get my laptop to lock it down. I got my laptop to do my work and study. A mix of common sense, a reputable security software, fast and reliable hardware and a set of productivity tools do the job for me.

But I do like, sometimes, to play with security soft from time to time because members here share their experience and you feel like testing what they share.

My current setup is relatively secure, but more importantly stable giving me the least issues.

Everything can fail be it the security product, or a bad MS win update or even the hardware. That is why I have backups and a spare system to use in case my main system dies. I am not paranoid nor do I waste my time fixing the unbroken. I do hate overkill setups. Moderation is a peace of mind.
If we all relied on the strict lockdown approach security, this forum would always have been much simpler, wouldn't it?

"Nothing at all happens on my computer unless I explicitly allow it. Not a script, not even a memory allocation."

Manually approving memory allocations isn't security, that's just roleplaying as a kernel scheduler. If you actually tried that, you’d never get past the bootloader.

The forum isn't a mess because we aren't locking things down hard enough. It's a mess because we're constantly trying to engineer software solutions for Layer 8 problems. You don't need to weld the hood shut to keep the car safe, you just need a driver who knows not to shift into Reverse on the highway. Good habits and basic hygiene prevent more wreckage than any "default deny" policy ever could. The complexity here is just the tax we pay for bad judgment.

Yea u witnessed the big bang, and you created MT. And you know better than anyone else. I do not know what a person who is being paid 267$/hour is doing here on MT fighting the members and, when no one is here, fighting the bot.

Shame on us, were are too illiterate that none of us has developed our own security system. We need to do our research.

Your reconnaissance is sloppy. You've got my handle confused with someone else's payroll. If I were billing $267 an hour, I wouldn't be here scraping the barnacles off this hull for free, I’d be billing a client for the privilege.

As for the history lesson, yeah, I was here when the foundation was poured. The difference is, back then people showed up with blueprints instead of just swinging sledgehammers at load-bearing walls. It wasn't about "fighting", it was about building something that didn't collapse under its own weight.

I'm not here to brawl. I'm just enforcing noise discipline in a channel that used to be dedicated to signal.

The forum has now been saved and delivered from all evil software! Hallelujah!

Even though majority of the sections here are related exactly to this type of software.
