Hot Take KFree plan

The free version of AV serves two main purposes: collecting telemetry of large user-base, and promoting the paid version; nothing is free; it just "looks as" free.
Yes, that's right. Thankfully, there are plenty of other options besides K. I got the Kfree installer, which is an up-to-date build 21.21.7.384. It looks like it will work by 2026, but I don't know how long Kfree will be active and receiving updates.

I decided to go back to Kaspersky (I have a Standard version that's good for three more months), and noted that even though benchmarks gave it a slightly lower score, it makes the system feel faster than Avast. Given that, I'm retaining Kaspersky for now until the license expires, and then see what happens after. I got Standard for only around 11 USD (three devices/one year) from an online store in AU, so I might try that again in the future because the cost is low (to activate it, I installed Urban VPN free, set it to AU, and then ran it when I activated K).

It was keeping K free turned off as a second scanner, but after the recent events, I have uinstalled it, and keeping only AVG free.
I can manage even with MD.

@Parkinsond One of the things I like about K is that it even blocks the ReasonLabs researcher page, in other words even the PowerShell example. I wouldn't worry about that, apart from it being old security news from August 2024. I remember many years ago K even blocked a .bat file with del *.* /y inside the bat file when trying to delete files from the C:\windows\system32 folder and at the time when deleting Win.com in a joke I made I commented this to @harlan4096 at the time and it surprised me. What AV at the time or today would detect a DOS command to delete Windows files? For me, this was phenomenal at the time, when I started using K and then had many experiences that were out of the ordinary for an AV, I've never seen an AV like it. That's why I admire K for its efficiency in detecting malware, even though it's not perfect. See the screenshot of the security researcher's website being blocked. ;)

K is definitely robust, but I am angry with Eugene Kaspersky after deprecating the free version; I am back to MD coupled with WHHLight.

I hope K reconsider the consequences of their decision, and to resume the free version, as what happened with B years earlier.
There are no consequences of their decision, Kaspersky invests generous amounts to stay on top of their game and wants users to pay their dues. They got no use for freeloaders, for telemetry, there are plenty of third-party feeds already curated. I’m surprised Kaspersky was so generous and didn’t discontinue the free version earlier.

The consequences are for the freeloaders, they will now have to look elsewhere.

Oh well, Comodo is still free and always will be.

B did it before deciding to resume the free version; vendors decisions are not immune to criticism if they are bad ones from others prespective; I even criticize my friend Bill ones
Not saying you can't, but there are plenty of times the backroom suites make decisions even apart from the support staff and some of the other employees finding out until after it happens.

I do not need free 3rd party AVs, I thanked and did not accept licenses kindly offered to me through PM by generous members of MT, I did not bother to ask for licenses offered as a giveaway, I can manage with MD alone and do not care about deprecation of K free.

I think You don't understand my post, what I mean is what @Jonny Quest said, I do not think E.K. is dedicated to making decisions of this type in Kaspersky nowadays, now he is dedicated to traveling around the world, visiting technology fairs, promoting the company, etc.
