Kaspersky is right to discontinue the free K version. Anyone who wants K will have to pay, there's no such thing as a free lunch, simple as that.I guess just a warning, "to force" and try "to trick" the Free user to go paid plan...

The free version of AV serves two main purposes: collecting telemetry of large user-base, and promoting the paid version; nothing is free; it just "looks as" free.Kaspersky is right to discontinue the free K version. Yes, that's right. Thankfully, there are plenty of other options besides K. I got the Kfree installer, which is an up-to-date build 21.21.7.384. It looks like it will work by 2026, but I don't know how long Kfree will be active and receiving updates. The free version of AV serves two main purposes: collecting telemetry of large user-base, and promoting the paid version; nothing is free; it just "looks as" free.
It was keeping K free turned off as a second scanner, but after the recent events, I have uinstalled it, and keeping only AVG free.Yes, that's right. K is definitely robust, but I am angry with Eugene Kaspersky after deprecating the free version; I am back to MD coupled with WHHLight.@Parkinsond One of the things I like about K is that it even blocks the ReasonLabs researcher page, in other words even the PowerShell example. I wouldn't worry about that, apart from it being old security news from August 2024. I remember many years ago K even blocked a .bat file with del *.* /y inside the bat file when trying to delete files from the C:\windows\system32 folder and at the time when deleting Win.com in a joke I made I commented this to @harlan4096 at the time and it surprised me. What AV at the time or today would detect a DOS command to delete Windows files? For me, this was phenomenal at the time, when I started using K and then had many experiences that were out of the ordinary for an AV, I've never seen an AV like it. That's why I admire K for its efficiency in detecting malware, even though it's not perfect. See the screenshot of the security researcher's website being blocked.
I think, it must be because I've been banned from the US, por isso deprecating the free version. I assume that's why.K is definitely robust, but I am angry with Eugene Kaspersky after deprecating the free version; I am back to MD coupled with WHHLight.
I hope K reconsider the consequences of their decision, and to resume the free version, as what happened with B years earlier.I think, it must be because I've been banned from the US, por isso deprecating the free version. I assume that's why.![]()
There are no consequences of their decision, Kaspersky invests generous amounts to stay on top of their game and wants users to pay their dues. They got no use for freeloaders, for telemetry, there are plenty of third-party feeds already curated. I’m surprised Kaspersky was so generous and didn’t discontinue the free version earlier.I hope K reconsider the consequences of their decision, and to resume the free version, as what happened with B years earlier.
Even knowing You did just a joke, most likely Eugene K. has nothing to do with this decision.K is definitely robust, but I am angry with Eugene Kaspersky after deprecating the free version; I am back to MD coupled with WHHLight.

That's what I was thinking, too. There are plenty of other "suites" there making those decisions, and maybe Eugene is now more of a figure head there?Even knowing You did just a joke, most likely Eugene K. has nothing to do with this decision.
B did it before deciding to resume the free version; vendors decisions are not immune to criticism if they are bad ones from others prespective; I even criticize my friend Bill onesThere are plenty of other "suites" there making those decisions
Not saying you can't, but there are plenty of times the backroom suites make decisions even apart from the support staff and some of the other employees finding out until after it happens.B did it before deciding to resume the free version; vendors decisions are not immune to criticism if they are bad ones from others prespective; I even criticize my friend Bill ones![]()

I do not need free 3rd party AVs, I thanked and did not accept licenses kindly offered to me through PM by generous members of MT, I did not bother to ask for licenses offered as a giveaway, I can manage with MD alone and do not care about deprecation of K free. Not saying you can't, but there are plenty of times the backroom suites make decisions every apart from the support staff and some of the other employees finding out until after it happened.
What is wrong with? Is every single member of MT is happy and approving deprection of K free?I was meaning about this one:
