This may have already been mentioned, but for you folks who insist upon FREE backup programs there is always Aomei Backupper Standard and Easeus Todo. I do not use either one, but I believe that through the years they have garnered decent reputations for being reliable. If anyone believes differently, please chime in.

Any idea if they will go for a subscription model as well?

Subscription model? No. I can't believe anyone would be that stupid as to use that model. But it will be paid-for, eventually. That's fair, for both sides I think. They deserve to be paid for their work. But I don't think subscription model where uses are held hostage and cannot create images is fair.

That being said, I'd grab Hasleo while you can. Or, better still, buy Terabyte's IFW.

Actually people do check open source code . See NIST CVE database listings for the last 3 months regarding Ubuntu: NVD - Results

Note: most have been taken care of in Ubuntu Hardening thread.
I was painting in broad strokes. You are right. Open source code does get check. But it’s not consistently all checked. And that’s been where the recent lapses have come from. It’s only volunteers and companies who volunteer their resources that produce open source projects. Some projects have more active maintenance than others. And some of the most relied upon projects in the world have few or single maintainers who desperately need more help.

OK I think this will help. those looking for a good deal.

Forgive me I do NOT remember the name of the company that originally made the software, but it was very reliable.

It is now owned by Ashampoo, I don't believe they changed anything at all from the orig developer, except some minor improvements.

I had a license from the Orig developer and it worked very nicely. It took you step by step thru the process of making an IBU.

It is under 20 bucks, and it is called Ashampoo Backup Pro 25

Based on what i read from win10 forums both those apps are disasters. I’d avoid both

There's a rumor that they will have 50% discount at launch (around $50 for 4 PCs) and as long as you don't cancel subscription, you'll get that discount every year. I'll upgrade if they have good deal for v8 user.
I received a refund of around 25% when I renewed my subscription a few days ago. It is therefore likely that at least this discount will be available later.

Aomei, EaseUS, Hasleo and MiniTools - no info on their ''about us'' pages. I don't trust such companies. I bet these companies are Chinese.

Uranium Backup - small, no background services, EU based and reputable, but expensive (easy fixable)

Check out the Hasleo admin's forum response about HBS licensing.
"So far, all the licenses we have sold use perpetual licenses instead of subscription licenses, so HBS will not use subscription licenses either. In any case, our products will be cheap."
"I'm sorry that we haven't considered the paid version yet, so I can't answer your question exactly. We'll always offer a free version and the free version won't have too many feature limitations."

In general for ALL people what commented here for other system backup software, please consider the forum thread is mainly about Macrium Reflect.
Talking about possible alternatives can be discussed rather in forum section like for instance Software Comparison or simply start a new forum thread:

Or for most of them we have already forum threads:

Uranium Free (just installed to tested it) can't perform full image back, so I just uninstalled it...

I have owned Macrium for several years. I have a lifetime license for V8.

I just purchased my first year subscription for V 10 (X), and will continue to support them.

This is how companies continue to make, or improve good products.

It helps pay for their employees, pay the electric bill, and hopefully make a profit.

I encourage everyone who has benefited from Macrium to at least by a one year subscription.

If they go out of business, we all lose. Better to support them. It's only $4.00 a month. We waste more than that on coffee and fast foods......... JMHO
