App Review Norton 360 Standard v24 (Avast Engine)

It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.

Norton is a well-known American computer security company.
After acquiring Avast/AVG, Avira and BullGuard and changing its name to “Gen”, the company is currently undergoing a metamorphosis.
In this version 24, the publisher is taking a very risky turn by doing away with the identity we know from Norton to... become an Avast clone!
Norton has some of its own functions, but many things have been taken over from Avast.
Let's see how it performs.

User interface :
Norton takes a big, risky step and adopts the Avast skin.
It's all there, even the functions! (and Bloatware, Norton has already suggested a few times that I switch to Norton Ultimate....)
Nonetheless, the interface is still visually stunning, and Norton is no slouch when it comes to configuration!
Power consumption is about average, even if Norton multiplies memory processes...

Web protection: 9/9
Norton has blocked all malicious URLs. Since it features Avast Web filtering, its browser extension becomes obsolete.

Fake crack : 1/1
Norton blocks and quarantines files with CyberCapture (or Download Intelligence)

Malware Pack : Remaining 17 files out of 187.
Norton detects and deletes the detected files, which considerably extends the analysis time.
One thing that surprised me: what happened to SONAR and Norton's intrusion prevention? !!!! I suspect the publisher has removed it.
Unfortunately, Avast/Norton is very average when it comes to protecting against unknown threats. Even though it has managed to block attacks with Avast IDS and prevent a stealer from reading passwords in Edge, infections are still present, such as NetSupport, which has not been blocked.
Norton has certainly been redesigned, but the paintwork is too fresh...

Final scan :
Norton : 0
Malwarebytes : 9
NPE : 0
KVRT : 2

Final opinion:

Norton presents itself as an Avast clone, offering a number of Norton functions that are not exploited/used.
It's a shame, because although Norton is starting from scratch by proposing a major change in the product, it doesn't bring any change at all!
For me, the software's paintwork is still too fresh, especially as Norton has removed some of the product's essential shields...
Disappointing.

Thanks for your comprehensive review of Norton 360 Standard v24. It's interesting to see the changes after the merger with Avast. It's unfortunate that some of Norton's unique features seem to be missing, but hopefully, they will improve in future updates. Your feedback is valuable to our community.

I'm especially afraid of the future, because if Norton becomes an Avast clone like AVG.... I don't see why they should run 3 brands without innovating and above all IDENTICAL...

Your concern is valid. It's crucial for brands to maintain their unique features and continue innovating, even after mergers. Let's hope Norton takes note and doesn't become just another Avast clone. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

It's a shame that AVG and Norton are now just Avast clones, but that was foreseeable.
So the merger of the products has failed for now and every Gen Brand is now simply selling Avast in different skins. :ROFLMAO:
BTW I just wait for them to close their HQ in the USA, because the main work is now being done by their colleagues in Prague:ROFLMAO:

Hi, thanks for the video. Has the powerful SONAR been removed? Is the current product protection better than Microsoft Defender? And which antivirus do you recommend for gamers? that has good protection and is super light

The "old Symantec" intrusion prevention is still preserved under "network" settings.
However, the nomenclature of behavioral protection (under realt-time protection settings) is not clear; is it Avast's one solely, or a hybrid one with "old Symantec" SONAR.
Descriptions by bevahvioral protection suggests that SONAR is not involved anymore.

It is the Avast Software Inspector/Behavioural Blocking. Behavioural blockings are way too involved and deep and can’t be hybrids. Even one is already too much to maintain (we saw CrowdStrike).
Furthermore, SONAR was tied to other components from the STAR protection platform. It is impossible to just leave SONAR. What is under IPS is the Avast Remote Desktop Shield and some firewall features such as preventing port scans. It is not the same full IPS that was offered before. However, Web Shield makes up for it.

It seems to be how they do it. They even have two Avast versions which are identical. They just giving you options, of the same thing, to get more users.

Sonar has been removed because this version is clearly Avast Antivirus with a Norton skin.

Microsoft Defender will unfortunately be more effective than Avast on many threats, especially scripts where Avast has a lot of trouble.... (Even though Avast has a Web filter, some scripts were not blocked during my test).

For gamers, Microsoft Defender is a good choice, even if the scan can monopolize resources (but you're not going to run a scan while you're gaming :) ) or Eset, Kaspersky. :)

I would argue. Kaspersky is not the best for the game. Unfortunately it causes a lot of problems, especially with COD. This is unfortunately confirmed by many among my acquaintance. Windows Defender, on the other hand, is perfectly adequate for gaming.
