I just found out an amazing way to increase my internet speeds, use the OpenSpeedTest link from the desktop app.

Baseline speed.


Speedtest.net from the Windows desktop app.


OpenSpeedTest from the website using Brave.


Then from the OpenSpeedTest desktop app (link it provides). How can it be so far off?

This is 100% an error. If you want to know your real speed, download Ubuntu ISO through torrent. It will show you the actual speed for your internet connection. These browser speed tests aren't that reliable.

I live i rural Oregon and have notoriously bad cell service at my house. Today Verizon turned on mmWave and I got improved performance which is good considering where I live. Speed test with nPerf this afternoon:

My sister in-law has symmetrical FTTP by BeFibre in UK, its not available here I would prefer the same up down speeds but as I cant get it....I do keep trying??

To be fair unless you're actively uploading really large files the symmetrical part is only nice for screenshots of speedtests as it looks nicer!

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've actually benefited from the increased upload speed and my contract is almost over.

The biggest plus of symmetrical is that you're likely not using any of the big ISPs so you never have to deal with the god awful customer service.

@Parkinsond, I have had slower than yours though not recently, maybe internet will improve in your part of the world? I was in Cuba a while ago, it was beyond slow there & less than that

I'm still on copper cables; waiting for the fiber-optic ones.

I'm still on 1/0,5 Gb/s and I think I will never go higher. If my ISP gave me better speed for the same price I'd downgrade to cheaper package which has 1/0,5 Gb/s. No need for higher speed when I don't have a use for it.

My speed is similar to yours, no need for higher also.
