Kape Technologies which is the company that acquired Private Internet Access, actually created malware back in the day. Quite funny that they are completely changing sides now. Wouldn't trust them even a little bit to be honest.

Thanks for the info, and a big off. Gotta put PIA vpn into my blacklist.

While I've been aware of this for a while, this is the first time I've seen screenshots. I can see from the screenshots that it is a rebrand of Intego Antivirus which I tried in December and did not like.
I just tested it briefly. It's yet another antivirus using Avira signatures. Just about all new antiviruses relying on third party signatures are using Avira signatures (although detection rates vary slightly from one product to the next), so it's not surprising. It's a very basic antivirus, which relies solely on local signatures and cloud detection, with no behavioural protection as far as I can tell.

Without any behavioural protection, it's definitely not worth using, just like the various other Avira based antiviruses which also lack this. The following are a few examples of such antiviruses.
  • PC Protect/Scanguard/Total AV
  • ITL Total Security
  • MajorAV
  • WardWiz
Here is a review of Intego.

I was watching this play out from the other end. I had been using Intego for Windows as I like no frills AV's. I decided to uninstall when Intego pulled it from their website.
When I checked back a couple of months later it was back - with an inbuilt VPN... I guess that's PIA.
