I have great hopes for the outcome of Norton+Avast merge. Norton has many strenghts like SONAR and its criterious detection capabilities. Avast is an all-time player with its ransomware protection and sandbox.

I praise we will get a monstruous all-in-one security product that somehow manages to stay light on resources :ROFLMAO:

Here in Argentina, you can buy Norton Antivirus Plus (the same protection but without VPN and other bloat) directly from Norton's website for aprox USD 2.5/year :D
I didn't know you're from Argentina too.

It's true. Until recently, Avast was about $2/year for 10 devices.
And Kaspersky about $8/year for 5 devices. Not anymore 😕

Dont forget norton still offers a few extras and i feel will eventually get more than avast/avg. Norton is much lighter too.
Extras like what? More junkware? Does Norton allow users to chose what components to install?
Norton is much lighter than Avast? My experience says otherwise. AV-Comparatives says otherwise too.

I tried Norton 360 V24 and my experience was:

- Pros:
  • lighter than Avast on resources.
  • more organized GUI.
  • more detailed log.
  • have a quick scan option without the need to do other scans, like in Avast (Smart Scan).
- Cons:
  • very buggy and need fixes (with GUI not protection).
  • no dark mode.
  • still show notification even after disable them in the settings.
  • removed some features like SONAR.

I doubt there is any solution lighter than Avast when you install the minimum components. Also Avast allows you to configure everything.

Edit.

Don't forget to run a deep scan and then restart the system.

I don't know how much Avast Free will continue with the release of Avast One, Norton 360 now is a copy from Avast One and I think it is just a matter of time until they unify this GUI for all Gen Digital products.

I don't think they will unify the GUI. The three products have different users. Avast acquired AVG years ago and the GUI is quite different in both products. I prefer AVG BTW.
