Solved Problem of Slow Running Dell Laptop Returns

As I mentioned above, my computer problem returned, yesterday. It's running very slow. When I shut it down, it will flash the "You Need to Force These Programs to Close" twice. However, I've closed all the programs before shutting it down and the area that's supposed to display the programs is blank. It even takes 1~2 seconds for the text that I'm typing to appear on the screen.
So, I repeated the procedure you gave me that fixed this problem 3~4 weeks ago. The thread is here:http://malwaretips.com/threads/dell-computer-running-very-slow-malware-scans-find-nothing.39799/

No improvement this time, so I tried the other scans to know avail.

I'm hoping you can remove whatever is causing this slowdown. I've recently started my own consulting business and of all the luck for this to happen right now. I'm trying to dazzle my would-be clients with my quick response time with their projects. It's impossible, now.

Thanks in advance for any help

This forum is run by volunteers who spend their time free of charge to help people in their malware removal efforts. We do not help cleaning business computers, you're making revenue using them, so you should pay for their repair.

I apologize for my misunderstanding.

I didn't think it through. This is my only computer. I haven't been able to find work as a mechanical engineer, so I thought I'd freelance by myself until the job market improves. I guess I didn't really consider myself a business, just someone with a slow running computer problem that has returned. You guys did such a great job last time with it, I naturally went back.

But you are correct. Technically, I do charge for my time using this computer to design parts(~8 hours/week). So, it's only fair that I pay you for your time.

What is your rate and how should I pay it?

Thanks again. I apologize for the confusion.

That is fair enough. You can donate some amount you can afford.

This seems quite clean.

Let's make one more check:

TDSSKiller_Kaspersky.png
Scan with TDSSKiller

Please download TDSSKiller by Kaspersky and save it to your desktop.

  • Right-click on
    TDSSKiller_Kaspersky.png
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Click on Change parameters and put a checkmark beside Loaded modules. A reboot will be needed to apply the changes, allow it to do so.
  • Your machine may appear very slow and unusable after that - it's normal.
  • TDSSKiller will run automaticaly. Click on Change parameters and click OK.
  • Click the Start Scan button and wait patiently.

If anything will be found follow this guidelines:
  • If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.
Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead.
  • Do not choose Delete unless instructed!

A report will be created in your root directory, (usually C:\ drive) in the form of TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt. Please include the contents of that file in your next post.

Thanks, again!!

Okay. I'm back.

Here's the screen capture.

Thanks, again!!

Edit: Since it sounds like I can restore the system to how it was before all of this happened, should I go ahead and do that? Or could there be some residual issues floating around from how it is now?

And, is it straight forward to restore to that point?

Much appreciated!!

I am not sure restoring PC to previous period will solve this. Temperatures look okay, there is no malware. Let's make one more check:

Okay. Thanks.

FYI. The hard drive is only a few months old. The computer itself is about 9 months old. Bought brand new from Dell.

Here are the latest files.

Let's try something:

FRST.gif
Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

icon_exclaim.gif
This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.
icon_exclaim.gif

icon_exclaim.gif
Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.
icon_exclaim.gif

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

adwcleaner_new.png
Fix with AdwCleaner

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save the file to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on
    adwcleaner_new.png
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Wait until the database is updated.
  • Accept the Terms of use and click Scan.
  • When finished, please click Clean.
  • Upon completion, click Report. A log (AdwCleaner[S*].txt) will open.

Please include the contents of that file in your reply.

Note: Reports will be saved in your system partition, usually at C:\Adwcleaner

Here are the request log files.

Also, as an FYI, earlier I restarted the computer in "Safe Mode with Networking". That corrected the problem: the speed in the response time returned. However, when I restarted the computer normally, the response time was very slow again.

I don't know if that eliminated any possible causes, but I thought I'd try it.

Ok.

The computer is still running slowly: it takes about 10~15 seconds to open an email once I've clicked on it in the inbox.

Did those last reports show anything wrong?

Is there anything else I should try?

No reports didn't show anything suspicious.

  • Press the
    WindowsKey.png
+ R on your keyboard at the same time. Type cmd and click OK.
  • Type chkdsk C: /R
  • Restart your PC.

Wow.....This is the same thing that happened last time.

I shut down the computer to move it to somewhere to have it run the chkdsk. When I restarted it, the problem "magically" went away!! The response time is now back to normal. I moved it make to the original location where I use an exterior monitor, Cat 5 cable for the internet, wireless mouse and keyboard, etc. plugged all that stuff back in and the response is still fine.

It must have been one of the last things you had me do.

I did not run the chkdsk, since I didn't want that to somehow affect the response time. I know it shouldn't, but.....

Anyway, thank you very much for your time and effort!!

Edit: I currently use Microsoft Essentials and Malwarebytes. Is there something better I should be using?

Thanks again!

Edit2: Or, since you were saying everything's clean from the reports and there is no Malware, could it be something entirely unrelated? It seemed to go away during a reboot when nothing had changed. Anyways, just a thought. Thanks!!

I am not sure what kind of issues this is. If it happens again, hard drive check would be necessary.

I do not recommend Microsoft Security Essentials, it is too basic protection, choose something else (Avast, AVG, Comodo, Bitdefender, Panda).

Will do.

At least we know that there's no Malware on there, now.

Thanks again for all for you help and patience.
